The Skies of the Middle East are Closed

Due to the bombing of Iran and the retaliation
by Iran, all civilian planes are banned from the
area, leaving thousands trapped in every airport
that has flights to and from the area, a massive
area.

At the same time Pakistan has attacked Afghanistan,
this will cause another no-fly zone.

This is a sad situation, not that I was going to fly
to these places, but for people who did go on a
holiday or intended to, they are let down badly.

Wars are bad, very bad.

there's a lot of expats over there as well....

When the towers were destroyed on 911 the U S airspace was closed. The only flight that was allowed to take off and land it was a humanitarian flight transporting an organ for a critical transplant patient. It was escorted by two military fighter planes. I know it's not the same but that is what immediately came to mind when I saw this thread.

The news this evening is suggesting that there
are around 240,000 people in the area, try to
get to Saudi Arabia, to be repatriated to the UK,
organised by our Government.

This is what I posted in the other US/Iran thread about a friend who was directly affected by the closure:

I went to a FB friend's page yesterday to wish her a belated HBD and found out she was going through a birthday nightmare. We have been online friend since the Eons days (20 years) and she is the one who invited me to join Senior Forums (though she eventually left). She had posted that they were supposed to take an Emirates flight home (Scotland) but of course, now UAE airspace is closed and she didn't know how or when they'd be getting home. I was really worried about her.

Update: Their visa was to expire today and they were given only a 7 day extension if they booked a flight out. So they are flying to Vietnam and will stay for 2 nights. The new plan is taking Thai Airways (TA) to London, then the train to Scotland. I'm relieved that she and her husband now have a solid plan that doesn't include flying through UAE airspace. TA is avoiding all airspace impacted by the current military conflict.
