The Spectrum Saliva Self Collection Test

This is the test given by the hospital before you have a procedure. Since this is a privately given test, your insurance is billed. The other test, stick up the nose 😧, is given by the county for free. Anyhow, you enter the hospital and are given a collection kit. You do the collection in your car. It contains instructions.

You can not eat, drink, brush your teeth, use mouth wash, chew gum, chew tobacco, vape or smoke 30-60 minutes before the test. Then your wipe off any lipstick, lip balm, or makeup around your mouth. Instructions say to allow saliva/drool to collect in mouth for 2-3 minutes. Collect drool from the FRONT of your mouth for 2-3 minutes. Collect drool from the front of your mouth only.

Do not clear your nose or throat.

Fill the tube until your drool (not including bubbles) is at or just above the wavy line. DO NOT OVERFILL

Takes about two tablespoons of drool. 😂. There is a little funnel you spit the drool into which goes into the tube. You take the funnel off, screw on the large cap which contains a blue solution. (It was hard to screw on tight as I have weak hands.). The blue solution stabilizes your drool. You know the cap is tight enough when the solution drains into the tube. Then you shake the tube for at least 5 seconds.

Then you wipe it all down with a swab, put it on the biohazard bag, and take it all back into the hospital lab. If you have COVID-19, they call you. If you don't, then no call. After the test, you are supposed to quarantine till your procedure. 🙄
