The song was written by Merle Kilgore & June Carter Cash.. for Junes' sister Anita...in '62...

Anita had already recorded 3 previous songs written for her by Merle..

No sooner had she recorded the song, Johnny heard it and told Merle, he loved the song, and that he'd had a dream that the song had trumpets playing in the background and he , Johnny..was singing it... so he asked Merle & June if he could record it, and the rest was history...

I saw both Johnny Cash and June Carter singing this song live on stage. They even had 2 guys with trumpets to give you the real flavour of the song. Them were the days! None of that country Twang I am forced to hear in stores these days.
