Decades ago as a twentysomething, out on party fishing boats here on the Pacific Coast, some customers would arrive at the dock entrance well before the skipper and boat hands arrived. And then when they did would rush down the dock and set up their fishing rods and tackle at the stern. Once customers dropped their lines down into the deep, it was obvious why. Less tangles with the many along the sides of such boats and more importantly, they caught more fish. So anyone that experienced such as this young lad, felt some minor envy that day and were wiser for the experience.
Most of my career in electronic hardware, I held positions above the majority of other techs so was often given high grade positions working directly with design engineers. Thus there were always some others at lower skill levels that envied positions I attained that was a result of my own technical study and efforts. Such competitive corporate environments are full of interpersonal communication land mines one might step on resulting in loss of position or job that has little to do with actual skills.
At personal male to female levels, learned to move into relationships slowly, patiently, not to trust females I had only known briefly. There are many liars of both seckses that are great actors that only become transparent after knowing them for longer periods.
