...and you dressed up. Men wore suits, women wore dresses. In 1957, my grandparents took me out to California to visit my uncle. I was 10 years old and I wore a dress, a matching jacket, black patent leather shoes with white socks, white gloves and my Easter hat. Grandpa was in a suit and Grandma wore her best suit with her fur piece.
I remember the "stewardess" (who looked very glamorous) giving me a little box of Chicklets and my grandfather was given a small box of cigarettes.
