These Millennials Are Paying $4,320 A Month For A Two Bedroom Apartment

Holy NYC!! Well actually the woman used to live in New York in the upper Eastside so maybe she's used to these kinds of rents. Granted in this Jersey City, N.J. apartment they have nice amenities, including water views and views of NYC but paying that is just crazy IMO. Must be nice to be able to afford it though. Here's a video tour of their apartment and the building's amenities. Even if you could afford it, would you ever pay that much for a two bedroom apartment or would you spend that on a private home or condo?

At this stage of our lives, my wife and I would not do it. For one thing, it would drain our resources a lot faster than we would be comfortable with. I am astonished that people their age could afford to do that, but who knows what their incomes are, we could not have done it in our 20's.

But at another stage of life, perhaps in our 40's or 50's we might have considered it. These young people are essentially buying themselves a lot of free time, and it might be worth it. My wife and I have both experienced 70 hour work weeks on top of long commutes (80 miles in one case) in unpleasant weather, the need to always maintain two cars, leaving a townhouse with less security every day, and everything that we needed required a car to get it. Factor in higher home maintenance expenses and how tired we were on most days and it might be worth considering. The amenities inside that building are very attractive and time saving. We would not automatically rule it out living that way at that stage of life. But in our 70's, no way.
