Thief Confronted by Homeowner

The weapon was not necessary
You probably noticed that the weapon was not pointed at the thief at any time. The homeowner seemed to know the law regarding deadly force & didn't want to risk being arrested/charged. BUT, before going outside to confront the thief, the homeowner had no way of knowing whether or not the thief was armed or whether or not his accomplice was armed or how he would react to being confronted.
I would not usually confront a thief. But if I chose to, I would have a handgun concealed on me, so it wouldn't be an issue.
