Sad, but buffalo can be a real road hazard, particularly in winter with deep snow.

Years ago I had a friend, driving at night he came around a bend in the road in Teton NP to be greeted by a buffalo herd completely blocking. He could not stop and just headed for the fewest, killed 4 of them, got injured himself, and totaled his car...

Geeze….hit about a three hundred pound calf running across the road at night with my truck. Did a substantial amount of damage. Can not imagine what even a single buffalo would do.
