This is Real Journalism - Two American Families

Last night I caught the last two hours of this documentary following two families from the 1990s to 2024. “Two American Families”.

It is heartbreaking and maddening and I can very much relate to what each family has gone through.

A famous quote about the news is that, “The job of the newspaper is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” (Finley Peter Dunne)

Watching Two American Families last night all I could think about was all the fat, happy, UNAFFLICTED people who run this nation and our states and wish I could make them all sit in a room for three hours, no cellphones allowed, and then please tell the camera, honestly, if they had any idea this is happening in the so-called “America” they imagine exists. Because I KNOW it’s happening, and I’ll bet some of you know it too, but we don't have the power to fix it on a systemic level.
THEY DO.

If they had no idea it was this bad, why the **** don’t they know? What newspapers should they be reading? Which books? Because we do have libraries and they are free.

Anyway - as someone else said here, it will all be over soon and then they will all shut the **** up for a while.
