This old world still ain't that bad a place

We don't have as far to go, as we've already been
Got up this morning still feeling low. Took my coffee and sat out on my back deck watching the sun burn through the morning mist. All the trees have filled out now and I'm pretty much secluded. Nothing man made in sight. Off to my right, I heard some birds chirping. Off in the distance, I hear a cow bellowing. Further off, a jackass is hee hawwing. Flying across my vision is a crow cawing away and seems to be in a hurry to be somewhere. Then I hear a rooster crowing. Way off to my left, I hear a woodpecker start his day on some tree. Then, a slight breeze brings me the sweet smell of honeysuckle. At last, somewhere off in the distance, I hear a car pulling the hill. My first human sound.
Yeah... sometimes you just have to sit and take it all in. :)

Sounds just about right to me. I miss the sound of a rooster in the morning. Most of my life we had a small flock or the neighbors did. None left now and the old chicken house is slowly collapsing and ready to be broken up and carted away.

We're headed for our daughter's cottage in Maine tomorrow and will spend the next month up there 'til they come up for the summer. Our SIL made the trip up and opened the place up for us. It's shut down during the winter -no heat, power, or water. It's on a dead-end dirt road with only 5 cottages around the lake. No cars, pitch black at night, and no people at the other cottages until later in the season. As squatting dog mentions, you can sometimes hear a truck or motorcycle pulling up the grade on the distant highway.

It sounds like your day starts off about the same as mine...a glass of orange juice while sitting on the front deck and listening to the birds starting their day in the trees and forest. I especially like to watch the hummingbirds jockeying for space at the feeders. The school bus comes by at 7:30 to pick up the neighbors girl, and a couple of the neighbors head off for work about that time...then all is quiet again....a real nice to contemplate what I want to putter around with today.

I agree SD, ain't a bad place at all! I love to be outside and listen to the birds and creatures around me, life is good. Great picture, thanks for posting it!
