Those sneaky guys at the US mint, and their $1 coin.

A few years ago, I went all credit/debit card. I was sick of all the coins I was collecting, and how hard it was to convert them into paper money. Last week, I took an overnight trip to Gettysburg, PA. I bought soda and chips from a machine. I thought i was ripped off. Not only was I short, but the machine gave me 3 Canadian quarters. Well, the "Canadian quarters" turned out to be $1 U.S. coins. Hey, ,when did those sneaky guys in the mint start this? I know in the '80s, the Clara Barton dollar coin went bust.

We have a long history of dollar coins, but in recent years they just haven't caught on.

Not for a lack of trying on the Mint's part, since the 70s we have had the Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony, American Silver Eagle, Sacagawea, and a variety of Presidential and Innovator dollar coins.
