Threads That Give You Chills

Anyone who frequents a number of sites will sometimes run into a thread or posting that just leaves you feeling a bit queasy. Somebody idealizing suicide or talking about some situation that could be life or death. If it was real life you could offer some hands on help. But online...the person can easily be in another state, another country. Of course you run into disaster trolls who create fictitious tales of woe. Eventually you usually read into their story and discover they're only looking for attention.

But the people who come online and they should not be online with a particular issue, they should be out getting real world help. There's a dog site I go on from time to time. Usually the questions are routine...how do I find a good tick preventive, is my pup overweight, remembering Rosie rest in peace. But today somebody wrote about a pit/Dalmatian mix. Suddenly fear aggressive, growling and trying to attack other dogs, growling at humans, killing two cats and a chicken. What can she do to get him to calm down? The last line of her post says that a human baby will be coming to live with them soon.

WHEEPWHEEPWHEEP I tried to spell it out as clearly as possible. My Sophie has the same behavior she describes. She is elderly now so we just kind of step over her quirks. She is allowed near no other animals except Callie and our cats. She fears strange humans but we walk late night to stay alone. She will never meet my grandson. I tried to emphasize that even leashed and muzzled a dog can still easily kill a baby or young child...DO NOT LET YOUR DOG NEAR AN INFANT FOR ANY REASON...or she will live with the guilt for the rest of her life.

I'll never ever understand the mindset of some people...dear God, I hope she realises she cannot have a baby anywhere near that Dog!!

I have belonged to this one forum for years. It`s all women-there were a couple of the husbands on there for a time but then one started up an online affair with one of the gals so all men got banned. Anyway, this gal,who really was not a particularly active member of the forum, came on and said she really needed help to escape her abusive husband. Said her was threatening to kill her and the kids and that she had to sneak to use the computer and could not use the phone. She said that if she could get enough money together, she could escape. It really did sound very real. One of the gals on the forum was a cop,and was doing everything possible to help her(not financially, but was trying to get someone from the local P.D. to go to the house and get her and the kids out. It happened to be a week or so before Christmas. She wouldn`t really cooperate much with the gal trying to help, saying she was too afraid to give her address and afraid for the cops to come. Suddenly something rang a bell in my head. I went back a couple of years on the forum and searched and searched and Bingo-there she was a week or so before Christmas saying her house had burned down and she had no money to have a Christmas for her kids-could we all help? I sent it to the "cop gal" and yep,the woman was a fake.

Yes, there are a bunch of nutty con artists out there, the internet helps them fleece a wider audience. But this lady today jeez...I still have nightmares about a kitten who died in my hands because of Sophie. Someone talking about a dog like her with a human child. Just pray that owner reads my message and takes it seriously.

You can`t change what some of those nutty people think or do and it`s very scary. My granddaughter in law`s nutso mother (and she IS NUTS!) thinks it`s OK for her grandbabies to crawl all over (ride on,jump on,etc.) her 11 year old Rottweiler. He is old, arthritic and cranky at times. Her son kept the grandkids from his mom for the first three years of their lives (they are 4,4 and 3) so the dog isn`t even used to having kids around. She thinks he would NEVER hurt a child but hey,if they hurt him first,he could react out of pain. People can be very stupid.

Then sadly there will be a front page story somewhere " Dog Mauls Infant to Death". The dog gets euthanized and the idiot humans are wringing their hands in front of the judge, like they had no idea it could happen.

I have seen a couple of "woe is me" threads in a pet forum and a political forum that made me think, "hmmm." If I have doubts, and I did, I PM'ed the mods and expressed my concern.

It gets serious in real life, though. Forums are one thing, but real life's another.

This is different than any of the things mentioned so far here, and I know it's not as serious. It did give me the creeps though. 7 or 8 years ago I joined a forum and right off the bat someone said that by looking at my avatar she could tell I must be "hiding" something because I was wearing big sun glasses and obviously hiding my truths from the world! I made no comment or anything, I just immediately deleted my membership and got out of there and never went back. I figured if they (and I say they as none of the others challenged that gal's statement) were that nuts I wanted no part of them. I can't recall for sure what the forum was about but I am guessing something metaphysical or to do with alternative health practices because that's what I was interested in at that time.
