Evening all,
Its been a really nice day here again, sunny and warm, Ive enjoyed today
But in the news today i read about a three week old baby thats been killed by the pet dog,
Im sure its a day the parents wont forget,
What a shame and a terrible thing to happen to such a yound child.

Yes very sad, I read that the other day Whisteria. According to neighbour comments the dog was a friendly dog, and hadn't been cause for concern to anyone, it belonged to the baby's father , but the speculation is that the dog became jealous of the baby..sometimes that happens so people should never leave a baby and a dog alone together, regardless of how gentle the animal seems .

You are so right Holly, never leave a baby near a dog.

Some dogs are very jealous of babies and small children who get all the
attention that the dog was used to getting and they are no longer the centre
of attention when the new addition to the family arrives.
How very tragic for the family.

Hi hollydolly,
Yes your probably right, its such a shame all round,
I feel for everyone concerned including the dog, it'll probably be put to sleep
I know some people will think how can i say such a thing ref the dog "but a dogs brain is very small and it let it's emotions take over.

Very true Holly. People shouldn't leave a newborn with any animal unattended. Animals do have feelings. The baby should've been introduced to the dog with parental supervision present. Then the dog would understand the baby was family and someone to be "protected" by him. Useless tragedy.

Dogs are pack animals and any dog's natural instinct is to ensure that any newcomer takes its place at the bottom of the hierarchy.

Jealousy is a human emotion and a dog is no more able to feel it than a lion can feel compassion.

"Useless tragedy."

Most are, no doubt. Of value, though, if hundreds of folks, made aware of it, or thousands, better, take closer heed with their pets. imp
