Ticks are appearing on our pets

I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again.

My dogs found a Deer at night. The Deer was dead. One of the dogs ran back home (in the darkness, I wasn't aware of the Deer) with the tail in her mouth. Disgusting. Obviously, I got rid of it. But a tick had jumped on to my dog. And that tick bit me. Days later, I was as sick as I'd ever been, I was hospitalized for days, in what amounted to a coma. Reason? Rocky Mountain Fever. Took some time to fully recover.

So...... be careful!

We ordered our tick and flea medication for our dogs. It came in the mail today. Our younger dog is like a tick magnet.

Ticks are good at overwintering. Most of them tend to take shelter beneath leaf litter and if it gets really cold temporarily go dormant.

Cleaning up leaves in the Spring that were left over from the Fall can put you at risk. Dogs are likely to pick them up as well. Ticks become active just a few degrees above freezing.
