Many people dislike receiving robocalls. Araceli King disliked receiving 153 of them from a single company.

Time Warner Cable Inc must pay the insurance claims specialist $229,500 for placing 153 automated calls meant for someone else to her cellphone in less than a year, even after she told it to stop, a Manhattan federal judge ruled on Tuesday.

It's a shame we can't do that with most of these crooks. I say crooks because a lot of these calls are from overseas using a "spoofed number" trying to trick us. I know they're not all like that but these days, it's best to treat all of them as if they are.

There is a scam coming from what sounds like India.. saying they are from "Windows" and that you computer is sending out virus emails randomly.. and they want you to go into your computer and type in a code to allow them to stop this virus coming from your computer. What they are doing is looking to gain access.. Anyone else get that call?

I’ve received lots of calls over several years for a person who apparently used to have my cellphone number (I’ve had this number over 5 yrs). I’ve told them to stop calling and I’ve even told them if they don’t stop I’m going to sue them. Haven’t gotten 153 calls, but I’m gonna start documenting these and any similar calls I get. Sometimes hitting these companies in the wallet is the only language they understand.

A lot of robo calls are contracted out so I guess they some get paid by a sale.

My thing is how they try to disguise a robo call. There's an alarm company that uses a lot of well timed pauses to make it seem live. Others let the machine call then get on the line once they realized someone picked up. Even with the delays that are the big tells the operator tries to make seem like a personal call.

I've gotten that one too. I didn't answer but instead looked the phone number up on the web site that people tell what the scams are and found it there. That's when I blocked it. A friend of mine got this phone call and she told them, "I don't have a computer" and they hung up so fast it was funny. One afternoon I returned home with a message from the "IRS" that if I didn't return their call I would be arrested. It sure did scare me so I turned right around and blocked them and said, "Go ahead." :)

I've found this site to be quite helpful with information or other experiences with the same number. Sometimes the same number is selling different products.

There are many other helpful sites as well but this is simple and gets to the point.

I got the IRS one, too. And the Windows one. And Cardholder Servces has finally got my cell phone number. The newest one is a senior's medic alert device that's all ready to be shipped to me for free. Just press "1".

I also told the computer guy, who said they had reports my pc was running slowly, that I didn't have a computer and he hung up instantly. You'd think if they are monitoring my computer like they say, they'd at least argue about that point. lol.

We had a few calls from the medic alert device number too. My hearing not what it should be....I thought he said "This is Brian from the chicken department". We have a lot of laughs when they call!

That's the web site I was referring to in my previous post. You're right, it is very helpful.

I've gotten the CardService more times than I can remember. And of course each time they say, "This is your last chance" and I say, "yeah, that's what you said the last time you called"

I've gotten the one about the medic alert device too. When it comes right down to it, I'm sure we've all received all of them that's going around today. "Brian from the chicken department" that is so funny!!!! Don't you wonder how they would have reacted if you had answered and started asking him questions about the "chicken department"? That would be a good one to pull on them just for their reaction. :)

Yes, I got them. I called Microsoft to ask about them and then I reported the call and the number it came from to everybody I could think of -- the FTC, etc. NEVER NEVER NEVER give out your information to someone you are not absolutely certain is who you think they are.

I think ALL robocalls should be illegal.

There's another one going around about some kind of senior alert thing. I would never sign up for ANYTHING from people who make robocalls. Period.
