.....the sun is a good, abundant and FREE source of germ killing power.

The sun's UV rays kill bacteria including corona bugs.

If you bring something home that other people you don't know have handled and you live in an area that gets a few hours of direct sunlight per day, you can set it out in the sun for about an hour or so, making sure you turn it so that all sides and surfaces get exposed.

In third world countries, they purify drinking water by setting the closed bottles in the sun for 6 hours after which it's safe to drink.

That's good to know for those with a backyard. Any advice for those of us who live in apartments without any balconies?;)

Probably some good general advice for anyone, backyard or not. (y) ;)

This is WONDERFUL to know. Thank you for posting it! I couldn't find any disinfectant to buy. I have Clorox but you can'tpour Clorox over everything. I have sunshine!

Hydrogen peroxide is very effective too, if you have a bottle stashed away in the cupboard somewhere.

I use 2 teaspoons Clorox to 2 cups of water - shake it in a spray bottle and it works great for disinfecting surfaces.
We were in the food manufacturing business and that was the standard "wipe" down for manufacturing areas. Used it on
the floors, too.

Yes, I bathe in it. Just put it in a spray bottle and spray mail and stuff? Not clorox, hydrogen proxide!

Now, Do I have a spray bottle? NOT GOING TO THE STORE!

I did that very think this morning with a big cardboard box delivery ..took it straight out into the rear garden and sat it in the sun for a few hours before I opened it.. (y)

My info agrees with this....use enough to wet the item or surface, and then, let it air-dry.

If you don't have any spray bottle to use,
then, the next option is putting it (the bleach/water mixture) onto a paper towel or cloth, and wiping.
Again, use enough to wet the surface or item, and allow to air-dry.

Just wondering....if enough direct sun comes through a window, to accomplish enough U/V and disinfecting , to actually set something near a window, as pictured above?....

Check the links I posed with the pic.

Or you can Google it.

Plenty of links to articles on the topic. (y)

When newborns are jaundiced, they put them under UV lights in the hospital. When my son was born,he was jaundiced when they let him come home, but said I could sit with him in a window with sunshine coming through and that would do the trick. I did and it did!

I remember back in the day when barbers put their combs and scissors in a small box that had a UV light in it. Do barbers still do that?
