To Have and to Hold

When we bought our first home, we noticed the water from the shower head didn't flow freely. The mineral deposits from the water had clogged some of the holes. I read somewhere that if you soaked the shower head in vinegar overnight, it would loosen things. So... I fastened a plastic bag of vinegar to the shower head and went to bed.

Next morning, I hear my husband yelling from the shower as if he is in pain. Apparently while showering, he looked up to see why the water wasn't coming down, and BOOM, the bag broke, the vinegar (watered down a bit) rained down into his eyes and face!! oops!

Strange he didn't notice a bag full of something attached to the shower head. Since he didn't I hope he flushed the vinegar out of his eyes.

Anne, a few years from now this will be a funny story for your husband to tell.

Did the clog in the shower head clear up. We do that for about one hour. It works for us.

WHOA !!!

I use dental picks to clear the shower head holes
They work to clear any small openings without damage
Use them to clear the holes in my pour over coffee cone too
They're quite handy dandy

To deviate a little I used to live with knowing this.

According to Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD)1, Las Vegas has a hardness rating of 278 parts per million or 16 grains per gallon. This level of hardness is considered to be “extremely hard.” In fact, Las Vegas has some of the hardest water in the country!

But my DIY project of installing a water softener eliminated hard water & scale build up.

32,000 Grain Preferred Home Water Softener for Hard Water and Iron Reduction

PVC pipe, fittings, whole house water filter [softners don't filter] with 10% veterans discount cost me just under $450.00 to install. Lime scale buildup is hard on water heaters & all home plumbing
This is what my shower head looks like.

Same here, and it is totally worth the money and effort....and actually didn't cost much money or take much effort.

Also, the tiles and window and shower door stay a lot cleaner.

The only sure way to fix it is to remove the head, and use a heavy pin or dental pick to clear each hole. With the head removed, you can shake out the debris. Living down here with the hard water, these things are second nature.
