To what depth and length would you seek revenge?

Why would revenge even enter one's mind?
Once the human consciousness develops to a certain level, , it's not possible to engage in hate, fear, anger, emotions from the lower functions of the mind. One has risen above these in both thought and action.

As the terrific Roberto Benigni said in "Down by Law" (I highly recommend watching it) as to why he was in jail after a pool room fight, "You t'row ball me, I t'row ball you."

None! I get angry and react instantly. Once I realize I’m angry I try and diffuse my anger.
Im not into sinister plots for revenge. Stuff like that would destroy me more than the person I’m angry at. I can’t hold in anger long.

Someone said, "Revenge is best served cold" (Les Liaisons Dangereuses, perhaps?) Personally, I prefer justice to revenge.
What movie has the line Revenge is a dish best served cold?
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
“Revenge is a dish best served cold.” This sentence (straight out of 1982's “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” )

I thought so, but had to check if this was the first time I heard it. It was.

A quick online search will yield confidently expressed views that 'revenge is a dish best served cold' is a translation of the line "La vengeance est un plat qui se mange froide" from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's epistolary novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, 1782, Source

I can't imagine spending a week in a prison cell so if a person killed someone dear to me I would prefer life in prison without parole to the death penalty. We hear about death "He is at peace now" or "He is in a better place" after their death. I don't want that. I want them to live like the animal they are for the rest of their lives.

Exactly, were those Jewish Nazi hunters bent on revenge or seeking justice for the murder of six million?
It was impossible to exact revenge for the murder of six million people. Or justice. If someone is responsible for the deaths of thousands, what is the appropriate punishment? There's no way to even come close to defining a punishment fit for those crimes. The death penalty is all we could do that wouldn't be "cruel or unusual." We could have tortured them, but that's sick and it would have made us as bad as them.

Revenge comes at a very high price. Instead of helping you move on with your life, it can leave you dwelling on the situation and remaining unhappy for the rest of your life and it seeps into your private and personal life. I prefer to seek justice.

“Revenge, the sweetest morsel to the mouth that ever was cooked in hell.”
Walter Scott
