Because the riddle begins with David's father has 3 sons, then identifies two leaving David as his father's 3rd. son.

The blank should be Pop because the 3rd son, David, is probably the oldest son and a father now.
So you have David (grandfather), David (son and father aka "Pop"), and the other two sons Snap and Crackle.
