I was just watching "Focus on Europe" One of my favorite news shows. They had an item on about teenagers in Kosovo who have been named after Toni Blair. There are quite a few. Think "Toni Blair Miroslavic". They are fifteen now. Blair is considered a national hero for ending the war in Kosovo and helping it gain independence.
They had a clip of him visiting Kosovo to a popular reception and meeting some of his namesakes
Conditions there are still horrible though. 70% unemployment. People living at survival level. Leaving whenever possible. I am not up on UK politics. Have no opinion on Blair one way or the other. Just thought this would be of interest to you UK folks. I will step aside and let this thread go where it goes.

Nothing...absolutely Nothing is of interest to me about that war warmongering piece of garbage Tony Blair...

Oh..I've gotta sit on my hands before I say what I really think..

A blasted Zero!

I get the impression no one here likes Toni. Linking him with Bush, jogged a memory.
I don't recall the incident, but something big happened, and both Toni and George made speeches about it on the same day.
I was never so embarrassed about being an American. Whatever they were talking about, you guys certainly won on presentation that day!

Revealed: how Tony Blair makes his millions
Exclusive: Former prime minister is being paid to advise the Colombian government on how it spends £2 billion earned from mining deals.

10:00PM BST 18 Apr 2015

Tony Blair is facing fresh accusations of a conflict of interest over his business affairs after it emerged he signed a controversial contract overseeing mining deals in Latin America.
Mr Blair is being paid to advise the Colombian government on how it spends ÂŁ2 billion earned from mining deals.
The contract, obtained by The Telegraph, reveals that the Colombian government does not pay any fees for his services. Instead, the fees owed to Tony Blair Associates (TBA), Mr Blair’s consultancy firm, are paid for by an oil-rich Gulf state where Mr Blair has developed close links.
The deal raises questions over Mr Blair’s role as a Middle East peace envoy and whether he has used that position to befriend wealthy rulers in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who are now funding his private consultancy work in Colombia, among other countries.
The disclosure will add to pressure on Mr Blair to quit as envoy. According to one well-placed source, he is expected to announce his resignation from the role in the coming weeks.

'I'm sorry': Historic moment Tony Blair FINALLY apologises for Iraq War and admits in TV interview the conflict caused the rise of ISIS

The extraordinary confession by the former Prime Minister came during a TV interview (in which he is pictured centre, top left and bottom left) about the 'hell' caused by his and George Bush's decision to oust Saddam Hussein in 2003. In the exchange, Blair (pictured top right with British troops in Basra in Iraq in 2003) repeatedly says sorry for his conduct. Speaking to the camera, he says: 'I apologise for the fact that the intelligence we received was wrong. I apologise for some of the mistakes in planning and, certainly, our mistake in our understanding of what would happen once you removed the regime' (transcript shown bottom right). He is also challenged that the Iraq War led to the rise of ISIS and admits: 'I think there are elements of truth in that.' But despite referring to claims that the invasion was a war 'crime', Blair insists he has not committed one.

This pretty much validates my comprehension of the information and news events of that time.

This thread started out in Kosovo but ends up in Iraq. Such a twist. What is the hate for Kosovo, a 5 month intervention to keep Yugoslavia from murdering these folks in Kosovo. My son was sent there from his UK assignment. Was not too happy about that but did survive without injury.

What happened in Iraq was really just a continuation of the UN guidelines made 11 years earlier and Gen Sir Mike Jackson worked to arrange that to happen in Iraq.

Two different events, this conversation really drifted a lot.

This thread is about Tony Blair.
Does it really matter which direction it goes?
After all, the War Monger has so many lousy facets, and has caused so much harm then the posters here are quite right and on topic in respect of Tony Blair-ZERO no matter what country we are talking about.
After all, he has caused mayhem in so many countries, and is responsible for the rise of ISIS in Iraq.
He admits that himself.
Scumbag. (Not you, Tony heffing Blair!)

Unfortunately, not all in the world hate Tony Blair as some on this forum seem to do , and Thatcher too. We do not hate Obama in the US, but many do wish for a change from him to a more debt reducing type of leader. Contrary to some folks, the Republicans have not been the creators of the debt. Some of the disturbed folks about Tony Blair should be out boosting other leaders rather than waste time hating Blair, he is gone. Time to work for tomorrow.

NO Bob.
Tony Bair has certainly not gone.
He is still swanning around the world making speeches, and earning a fortune in the process.
Everything is still ongoing with him, and the Chilcot inquiry into the Iraq war has still to come out
He is responsible for the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands of people.
The dead British Soldiers and their families want justice, and you mark my words.
One day they will get it when Tony Blair is on trial in The Hague.
Hating Blair is not a waste of time.
Try telling that to the families of the dead!

PS
Have they found any weapons of mass destruction out in Iraq yet?

If you really kept up with the news you would not be asking that question. Yes Saddam had been working on such, along with lots of other thing, in order to keep Iran from attempting to attack Iraq. Yes, Saddam did admit to have made up stories about having real atom bombs after he was caught. I still don't see why all the leaders that thought Saddam needed shut down need to be tried. Did you read my comment about Gen Sir Mike Jackson and his helping to get troops back into Iraq as the original order covered the never ending Iraq war of 11 years earlier. Several countries had kept flying over Iraq all those years and had troops and investigators watching as Saddam just kept on murdering his very own people. This extended hatred for those who were really only doing their job of supporting the UN wishes should not have to fear any trials after words. If such were to happen in the US, I don't think the US has to pay attention at all.

My feelings about this effort you say is going on. We have moved on and no need to just keep going back into the past and try to get all jailed or worse to fit today's feelings. Should the UK now try the people of the US for having the courage to tell the red coats to leave the US some 250 years ago? I am sure some would want to, but it just won't happen. Tony Blair may still be around physically but he is no longer part of your government. I had never heard of this Chilcot inquirey. I don't see him responsible for killing thousands of people at all. How many troops from the UK were killed? Saddam was killing thousands himself prior to the military effort the UN put on Iraq.

OK, I just read about the Chicot inquiry. Seems to have been over for more than a years but still not released to the world. What was that bit about some court in the Hague? I saw nothing about that.

Chilcot is still to report on the Iraq war and has nothing to do with the Hague and the European Court Of Justice.
I feel that this is yet to come given time.

The UK lost 179 servicemen and women, of which 136 were killed in action.
include path="/nol/shared/spl/hi/in_depth/uk_military_casualties_v6/widgets/inc/all_fatalities_iraq_464.inc"
Other coalition countries account for 139 deaths according to the icasualties website.

CASUALTIES
The US has lost 4,487 service personnel in Iraq since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom on 19 March 2003, according to the latest figures from the US Department of Defense.

Is that enough deaths for you to think about as you try to defend the indefensible Bob?
