Took a fall...broken shoulder!!!!

I have been busy in real life lately, and have not posted much lately. BUT, yesterday brought me back down to a crawl. Made a last second decision to go to the Dollar Store near me to stock up on things. Made it from parking lot to sidewalk just fine, then BAM..tripped over a bad spot in walkway and took a tumble. Landed on my left shoulder. The one with the already bad rotator cuff. A customer saw me and came over to check on me. He went into the store and had someone call 911. Ambulance comes. I could not move my arm at all, so I knew this would be more than just a fall. Once at hospital, they got me on a bed, gave me a pain pill and sent me for X Rays. Turns out I broke the upper part of my humerus. Could not put on a cast because of where it is, so am in a sling. Next week I have to go to an orth doc to get more XRays and see where to go.
I am not happy.

Oh,Marie thats terrible! I hope it heals with no problems and you aren't in a lot of pain. I think you will be in for a lot of physical therapy.

That is a terrible thing to have happen, and when we are older, it can just happen so much easier. I don't have as good of balance as I used to have, and if I start to fall, there is no way that I can catch my balance and break the fall. It sounds like that is about what happened to you also, Marie. I know that has to be hurting a lot, especially since they can't put a cast on it; but hopefully the doctors will be able to take care of it for you so that it can heal back up soon.

Ouch!!! Ouch!!! Owwwwwccchh!!! You pooor lady.

I'm going for a cortisone shot in my shoulder tomorrow.. ( if I don't lose my nerve)..because the pain is awful..can't dress myself, reach for above or behind me without horrible pain...... so, I can't imagine how much horror you must have felt as you fell on the same side as your torn rotator cuff. You're so brave, I couldn't possibly imagine doing that and still fee well enough to be posting on the forum the next day.....wow!! what a hero... I hope you get better very soon..

Thanks every one. Cannot type a lot, not comfortable. But I wanted to let you know I read every thing. I go to the ortho next Thursday for a follow up and more X Rays, I will post more when more comfortable. Less pain now than last night

Sorry to hear about your fall and wishing you a speedy recovery!!!

Until you get back to normal I think you should dictate your posts to SO and let him play secretary!!! :eek:nthego:

Marie, I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. Take it easy and don't rush things. I've learned the hard way that that's not a good idea. I had an injury to my shoulder and was feeling better, so I did stuff I wasn't supposed to do yet and -- "boom" -- pretty much back to square one. Bummer, to say the least.

I know that's got to hurt. Have had my share of falls and pain. I hope you are prescribed something to ease the pain. Breaks take some time to heal. I hope you'll feel better asap.

Set my laptop up on kitchen table, so can type better now. Feeling much better. Even washed some dishes...one handed. LOL. I cannot just sit and watch TV, too boring. Later I will start catching up on reading posts here and posting. Much more confortable at the table, for sure.
Amazing how much a little break can hurt. My husband says he does not want me leaving the house without my cane any more. He has been great. Last night he sat me on a I felt much better with a new top on, and the sling on right.

Hang in there, I hope you "mend" quickly!!
