Torn muscle ?

4 days ago I was walking when suddenly I got a very painful cramp in my right calf. Even up to now, it still hurts.
Whether I tore a muscle OR it is merely a knot, I don't know.
Does anyone happen to know the best way to deal with this. ? I have tried massaging the calf, but without any improvement.

My husband was planting some shrubs on Sunday and was wearing his Birks(see pic below.) Caught the toe on the edge of the driveway and down he went.Layed there and accessed his condition and said "cool-nothing`s injured."Went to stand up and was hit with the worst pain he`s ever felt (he says)The pain was in his calf and he couldn`t put any weight whatsoever on it. Of course it was the same leg that he had the knee replaced on in February. Anyway,I ordered him a calf/shin splint brace from Amazon. Came the next day.Neoprene.Velcro closures. Makes it feel much better. No doctor for him-he`s stubborn.

Maybe it is just a sprain type thing. If the pain stays bad, if it starts to swell or get hot to the touch or red I would go have it checked. I was just kinda worried it might be a DVT. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

If it's still painful, see a doctor. BTW - muscle cramps can be caused by a potassium deficiency. Aside from the usual supplements bananas (and several other fruits and vegetables) can be a good source.

I've had 3 of those - all in my sleep. One in my 30's, one in my 40's & one a few weeks ago, but it was on one side of the knee; not in the calf like the other two.
With all 3, I was limping for several hours afterward, then everything is OK.
I've read that it's a good idea to stretch the calfs before bed. Two ways to do it:
1. Sit up on a bed with legs straight & feet vertical & bend forward slowly, bringing hands toward feet. You should feel the stretch in the calf & thighs.
2. Stand a few inches from a wall with hands on the wall, Keeping heels on the floor, slowly move toward wall.

Have you tried applying a heat back and pulling your toes towards you, it hurts like hell but it works.
I would go to the doctor if things don't improve.
