I found this in a dresser drawer and tried posting it on a Facebook collectibles group, but got a reprimand. Apparently no firearms, even toy guns, are allowed. Very strict, apparently. I don't know what the DICK refers to despite eBay references to Dick Tracy.

"Dick" is old slang for detective as in "private dick". If you watch old movies/TVshows on MEtv or TCM etc you will hear it once in a while. I heard it the other night on a Peter Gunn detective show.
 
I remember playing with toy cap guns with my brothers and neighbor kids. The roll of caps that made a cracking noise and had a burnt smell.
Of course today those would be forbidden.

We played with them too. Still remember that smell. I still hear that term in old shows for detectives. It was very common then!
 
I had an official Roy Rogers cap gun and my very own gunslinger holster belt, and so did my sister. We had battles to the death with each other (after first deciding who was the good guy and who was the bad guy) and regular gunfights with marauding outlaws and assorted ne'er-do-wells. Great fun!
 
My favorite cap gun growing up was a Mattel Fanner 50 which is much bigger than the little Dick pictured......based on size alone could we then possibly call mine a Big Dick ?

I ordered a cap gun, a few years ago, thinking it would be like the ones I had as a kid. What a let down: The caps didn't feed, very well, and the reports were almost inaudible, when they went off, which wasn't very often. Yep, they sure don't make 'em like they used to!

Me too, me too! Loved them. Those red rolls with the black cap dots... if the guns didn't strike them right, we'd put a strip on a rock and strike it with another rock. Nobody I knew ever got hurt or burned that way. We had so much fun with those guns and cap rolls. :)
 
I liked cap rockets, as well. We'd load four or five caps in them, and let them go. Great stuff. The one I have now is built well, but the caps are terrible.

Yep! We did that too. They were a lot of fun. We also played cowgirls and Indians. :grin:
 
Yes they were lots of fun!
I wouldn't be surprised if there's some in my attic. I know I have the gun.
