Train Stabbing in England

Yes, this was yesterday...

Apparently they were immigrant british citizens.. and it was all the more terrifying for me to read because not only is that absolutely rare in fact I don't remember anything happening like this in the uk.. but it's where my daughter lives....

I don't know if the attackers were local people or had got on that train from somewhere else before launching the attack.. but how terrifying...

It's terrible anywhere of course but in the UK.. we're not used to people getting attacked, so we're pretty much like lambs to the slaughter, feeling very safe on public transport..

So glad Donna is ok.
The situation is just horrible. I have no doubt this was thought out very carefully. I mean, there is nowhere to run on a moving train.

there really isn't anywhere to go, as you rightly say ... and clearly this is why they chose this as their target. absolutely appalling and it just is very worrying now that there's going to be copycat attacks. The UK relies heavily on the train system for public transport especially commuting.... so this is going to put people really on edge...

Let's look at some Googling.

"In the year ending March 2024, there were about 50,500 offenses involving a sharp instrument recorded by police in England and Wales, a slight increase from the previous year."

The UK has had mass stabbings in November, July, May, and January of this year. In July 2024 13 people were attacked in a knife crime, three of which died. We don't (generally) have guns here. Gun deaths in the year ending March 2024 in the UK amounted to 22.

Of course, it's horrendous, but who can account for the type of mind that would do such a thing? Whether the perpetrator is an immigrant or not is a smoke screen. Irrelevant. That it's tragic is not.

It transpires that the train shouldn't have been anywhere near where my daughter lives.. but when the Train driver was alerted to the stabbings and the mayhem on board the train which was travelling from Darlington in the North of England down to London.. he diverted the train to the nearest station.. which is the station ear my daughter.....to get the fastest help he could

The headlines made it look as if the stabbings took place at Huntindon station.. and that wasn't the case...

One young woman, Maisie Harrison, was listening to Queen and Oasis through her headphones, and about to be stabbed when an older man threw himself in front of the blade.

Her mother Dawn Duke said last night she 'owed everything' to the hero.

Ms Duke, of Lincoln, wrote on Facebook: 'Prayers for a full safe recovery to the hero of a bloke who jumped in front of my daughter and saved her life!'

Witness Olly Foster told the BBC he had seen Maisie saved – and that the man who shielded her suffered knife wounds to the head and neck.

But he said where he first heard shouts of 'Run – there's a guy literally stabbing everyone', he had assumed a bad-taste Halloween prank was being played out.

Police confirmed the suspect was born in the UK and is of Caribbean descent. They are understood to be looking into whether he was known to the authorities before the incident.
hero driver...

Hero driver Ex Royal Navy serviceman of 17 years, who served in Iraq ..Andrew Johnson (pictured) rapidly diverted the London-bound train to Huntingdon station after being alerted to the mass stabbing, enabling emergency services to act fast

The knifeman stabbed and slashed his way down the still-moving train through two carriages before reaching carriage G, location of the café bar.

And it was there that he was held up by the most seriously injured victim, who last night remained in a life-threatening condition in hospital – an LNER buffet worker.

As the maniac burst into carriage G, the railwayman reportedly tried to stop him, sustaining serious injuries in the process.

'That man was an absolute hero', a rail source told the Mail. 'He fought this guy, who had a large knife, to try to stop him hurting any more passengers.'

A spokesman said train CCTV showed the injured worker's actions 'were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved many people's lives'.

I was going to post this yesterday but it would have been too soon. I understand Prime Minister Starmer is saying this was not a terrorist attack. Just some deranged nuts I guess but it is still horrible nonetheless.
yes apparently... but if Starmer told you it was raining you'd have to look out the window...

However the police say i's not terrorist it,s a deranged nutcase..

I think it is an understandable, knee jerk reaction given the concerns regarding the high number of people arriving here illegally with no identity and the authorities having no idea whether any of them are criminals and/or have links to known terrorist organisations.

Having said that, it has been reported today that the attacker in this case was born in the UK and the police are looking into whether he was known to the authorities.

What led to this attack will, I am sure, be made clearer over time but, whatever the findings may be, they will not change the fact that this was a terrible act of violence against innocent people going about their daily lives.

This is the man accused of a knife rampage on a high-speed train bound for London - as well as an earlier attack at a station in the capital earlier that day.

Anthony Williams, 32, of Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough magistrates' court today charged with 11 counts of attempted murder.

Williams, 32, has been charged with 11 counts of attempted murder linked to the incident on the LNER train and another at a station in London. Court documents allege he used a 'large kitchen knife' in both attacks

Stabbing multiple people let alone 10 is a lot of work. Which requires a degree of fitness, training, drugs, psych problems and/or extreme motivation.

Speedy recovery to survivors/victims

He’s suspected of being involved in three other incidents
British Transport Police (BTP) said Williams has also been charged with another count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in connection with an incident on a London train in the early hours of 1 November.

The force said a victim suffered facial injuries after being attacked at 12.46am with a knife on a train at Pontoon Dock station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in east London.

The suspect had left the location before police arrived and officers subsequently identified Williams as a suspect, the force added.

Meanwhile, police in Cambridgeshire confirmed on Monday that they are investigating a series of incidents on Friday and Saturday, including one in which a teenager was stabbed.

In a statement, the force said a barbers in the Fletton area of the city reported a man with a knife on Friday evening, and again on Saturday morning when police were not able to locate the suspect.

A third incident "that police also believe may be linked" involved a 14-year-old who was stabbed on Friday evening by a man with a knife in the city centre," the statement added. The teenager suffered minor injuries.
