Trashing the Wedding Dress

Just read this on the news today. A woman in Banchory Scotland decided that rather instead of storing her wedding dress in the loft, she would trash it instead. So her and her husband arranged to go into a forest locally and splatter the dress with paint and mud. Hubby drove a quad beoke around her and soaked her in mud. She retianed a pice of the dress in a locket and had a pgotographer take some pics. Now she has some additional memories to look back on!

I like that idea!

Strange. I just would not have bought the dress in the first place. Maybe they were pressured into having a big wedding by relatives.

Oh well, whatever floats your boat, as they say. ;)

She got her 15 minutes of fame! But, it seems like a waste of good money, doesn't it?

That said - I had mine packed for storage and hauled it around as we moved hither and yon. When I finally decided it could use a smaller box and I unpacked it I was NOT HAPPY but it was too late. There were stains on it - that I am sure were not there when I wore it - it was torn and irreparable. So, I have plans to take it apart and try to use some of the lace in a new project. Pinterest has all kinds of ideas to re-cycle something like that. Maybe over a pillow with the wedding date stitched on the back. It was a beautiful dress too.

I think that was the point. She saw no reason is simply packing a dress up without making some more use of it. As she was unlikely to use it again for its original purpose, she thought that some fun pics would make people smile. She had the dress cleaned and althought it now carries some stains, it is still around for sentimental value and to make her smile.

my daughter trashed the dress the day after the wedding at the beach with all her friends . it would have cost more to clean and preserve the thousand dollar dress . most of the kids do that today . many of her friends did it .

she actually had to buy a plane ticket for the dress to get it to the wedding .

she went for a swim in the ocean since we had a destination wedding in the dominican republic .

My younger sister is very talented with a sewing machine and uses donated wedding gowns to create burial outfits for preemies and very small babies. Apparently there is a need for this, so she joined a group of women who donate their time and talents to help grieving parents bury a child in something beautiful. They're called "Little Angel Gowns." Here's an example of one she made for a baby that was only 1-2 lbs. She's received some wonderful notes from the recipients of these.
