It wasn't naive... wanting someone to travel with is fine if precautions are taken... but since this is a worldwide forum, I think it would have been very difficult coordinating something like you requested. Like "meet me at noon at the Trevi Fountain...." ? On the other hand, if you'd find a travel partner locally, you'd leave together and have a chance to have met previously. I hope you find someone to go with you... and I hope you'll stay with us here for a while, despite the reception. :giggle:
 
Hotels have to be at least 4 star (Hyatts, Marriotts, etc.) and I do not share rooms (except with my son, when necessary). I even stopped sharing one bedroom suites at my timeshare when my sister, who's travel "requirements and activities got on my last nerve, came along. I paid almost double the cost of a double when I went on our family reunion cruise rather than share a cabin with a relative.

@jujube What a terrible experience for your mother! I hope she (or the b*tch) got moved fairly early in the cruise.

Lots of people do find travel buddies online so, I don't think your post asking if anyone would be interested was particularly unusual, rather that we sometimes get one-time posters who are not generally taken seriously. Usually it's someone who thinks this is a dating site and sometimes folk who are trying to sell something.

Look online for the sort of holidays you would like and see if any of the companies have forums you can sign up to. I once worked with a lady who did that and she had a great time. The travel company had a forum so, she could chat to other people who were booking the same holiday (she was a cruise fan) and often, they would meet up beforehand as a group.

On another note, I read your "about me" page and love the sound of your old cottage in Wales, I am a fan of old buildings. I hope you haven't been put off and that you stay around and get to know folks here. :)

There are some groups out there for solo senior travelers. You should do a google search. I have some online friends who travel with these groups.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt and you are legitimate, why don't you remain on the forum and keep members apprised of you plans and preparations, and later post pics of your travels. Virtual travel partners are better than none, and "the old folks back home" would like to know how it's going.

You haven't been naive, it simply was not the right forum. As Tina already wrote "There are some groups out there for solo senior travelers."

Some of the members who answered tried their best but you seem to be offended. There is absolutely no reason for this.

No, I wasn't offended at all. However, I should have done some research instead of choosing the first app that came along.

No damage has been done, and I am a little wiser for it.

This app is not useful to me, so I will be deleting my account effective immediately.

No, I wasn't offended at all, but someone posted a comment remarking, "How do members know I am not a scammer?" and he was quite right. That is why I thought I was naive, well, actually stupid; I should have carried out some research instead of choosing the first app that came along.
No damage was done, and I am more wiser for it.

However, besides coming up with the idea of travelling abroad with with someone else (which I am not anymore, I will be going on my own), there is nothing more, useful, or beneficial I can contribute that will be of any interest to anyone on this app.
To this effect, I am deleting my account 🤗
