Travel Warnings About The U.S. From Other Countries

There was a warning like that when I was young about Northern Ireland because of the IRA. I never visited Jerusalem either, though I was invited to do so, because of the tensions and random killings going on there. Things haven't changed in all these years.

Anyone foreigner who is going to travel to the US and visit New York City, New Jersey, Chicago and many other places...
without taking precautions, can easily wind up mugged. It is not a myth. It is not just something on TV and in the movies.

Most of us here in New Jersey have been mugged at least a few times in our lives.

Other countries warning about travel to the US are definitely not exaggerating.

Now, that being said, the vast majority of the US is quite safe. Almost all the problems are centered in inner cities.

And, if you know what you are doing, you can go to those places also and stay safe.

If you are going to travel to the US and are concerned about safety, by all means contact your government and ask for advice...

The U.S. State Department is always sending warnings about this, that and the other. It sent one about the rolling thunder Ottawa demonstrations. Still Canada is considered level 1, exercise normal precautions. Yet Japan is considered level 3, reconsider travel... covid. For the record, the UK is considered level 2, exercise increased caution.

I will avoid UK and Canada, as it seems to require exercise. As for Japan, I already spent extended periods of time there.

The more I see the news, the happier I am to be living in a quiet rural setting. The Only shooting we've had around here in the past 20 years was when some lady shot her abusive husband....she got probation.

And now, there is a growing uptick in highway shootings....in/around many of the major cities....probably due to the increase in Road Rage.

after all the anti-police rhetoric and defunding, why are you shocked about rising crime?
That's right! You want to defund the police and you are surprised that crime goes up. Sometimes the public out there just doesn't have any brains at all. If you ask me, folks that want to defund the police are secretly working for the criminal elements out there. Murderers, rapists, burglars and other no goods would love to see the police disappear. Anyone here for more spousal abuse? Anyone here for more sexual abuse? Reading the news and all the crying from the "defund the police" cry babies I would say there are a lot of folks out there that want more crime. To me, it doesn't make sense!

So, if the police are bad, then who is good? The 18 year old kid that walks into an elementary school with an automatic rifle that he just bought?

That's strange we haven't had any warnings here.

Tish this is from the warning page:
  • "Avoid areas where protests are occurring due to the potential for unrest and violence. Monitor the media for information and updates. Follow the instructions of local authorities, including by obeying any curfews.
  • The US has a heightened risk of terrorist attacks. Terrorists may use vehicles, knives, homemade bombs, and poisons or toxins. Be alert, particularly in public places and at events.
  • Violent crime is more common than in Australia and gun crime is possible in all areas. Follow local guidance and instructions. If you live in the US, learn active shooter drills.
  • Thieves target travellers. Take care on public transport. Don't leave valuables in your rental car."

On the last Bill Maher show, he mentioned that more people want to travel to, or emigrate to the U.S. than to any other country. By far.

So apparently, the "travel warnings" aren't too effective.
Care to provide a link that shows that TV show, with him saying that ? Read this link that compares the immigration systems of the USA versus that of Canada. Pay special attention to the stats about personal safety in the 2 countries, and the crime rates in either country. link. Canada vs USA Immigration - Canadim JIm B.

If you want to watch the full show, have at it. If not, go to 41:08.

I have the utmost respect for Canadians, have friends there and have visited many times. Let's not make this an "us against them" conversation.

Thank you so much, dseag2! I was getting all ready to wade through the whole program again (not that that would be so terrible, I'm a big fan of that show), but you did save me a whole lot of time. I did give Bill credit for that statement, which was an error. It was his guest, Douglas Murray.

Johnintoronto, give the show a try. You may enjoy it!

Many Canadians are not fond of Mr. Mayer. I am one. Cultural differences, perhaps. His comments re our Prime Minister sounding like Hitler were egregious. Apparently, he took exception to Trudeau’s handling of the Trucker Convoy situation.
