(Humorous question!)When travelling in a non -English speaking country,What would you hate to forget the word for?

Thanks to Family Feud for this one...

I guess bathroom, because I wouldn't want to make hand motions about what I meant. Once in Sweden I went in a grocery store to just buy toilet paper and I bought a pack of paper towels by mistake. I saw trees on the wrapper and for some reason it just seemed like it was toilet paper.

"Please" and "Thank You".

Anything else you can point at in a shop.

Mike.

It is remarkable how many speak English in other countries.
I took French in high school. I used it on 2 different trips to Quebec. Remember very little of it anymore.
My job in the 70s and 80s involved traveling. I bought some Spanish lessons on cassette tapes. This proved useful in Spain, Mexico and Miami.
The various countries speak different dialects, much like Scots, Jamaicans, Texans and Aussies each have their own manner of speaking English.
The bathroom is clearly important, followed by food, drink, then clothing and a tank of gasoline.

In the UK, the bathroom is where you have a bath. Colloquially, we often say "The loo" for toilet.

I find it useful to know a few words of the language in any country you are visiting and I think it is a little disrespectful not to make some sort of effort to learn something - at least, please and thank you. Food and drink is useful too as not all restaurants post a menu in English. If they do, the translation is sometimes misleading.
