Most of us struggle with something these days and those that don't work hard so I have this little thing I do for me. My own struggle is with pain, sometimes it would bring a horse down but I refuse to let it bring me down. I won't take to my bed no matter how much I am hurting I just try to push through it.

This little thing I do everyday.I give myself a treat.
I spend time researching, planning, selecting and buying treats, it can pass quite a lot of time and it always elevates my mood and gets me through bad patches, then when I have the treat I feel great. I make quite a ritual of it.

Treats can be anything, perhaps a favourite food that is pricey or hard to find..for me that is a lobster I cook myself. It is expensive but occasionally I will do it. Another favourite foos that costs practically nothing may be one that brings back good memories like my mothers UK wartime soup.

New PJs.and new slippers after a bubble bath, then a fave movie in front of the fire by candlelight.

Having a box of chocolates sent from Hotel Chocolat,, mm but very rarely.

I don't count it as a treat if it is something I do everyday.

My two Chihuahuas Florence and Maisie get in on this too, they get their daily treat at 9 pm and they know what time it is , they start prancing about just before the time, then we have the conversation..."What do you want?" Oh it is 9 oclock. it is TREAT TIME" then they go wild as I open their cupboard.

I am always looking for ideas for different treats , all ideas welcome

What do you do to really teat yourself ?

If you are feeling down or hurting try the daily treat thing it really works, you are all special and you all deserve it.

Please join me.

You made me smile reading about your Chihuahuas Jeanine. :D Funny how our pets can tell time when there's a treat involved, both my dog and cat do the same thing every day. They get a morning treat, they know when it's their dinner time, and they get an evening treat, they'll find a way to politely remind us if we dare to forget. :love_heart:

Sometimes as a treat for myself, I take a nice long bubble bath. Goodies like chocolates and ice cream are always nice to have around as a special treat. If I'm feeling down, I sometime buy a little plant for the house, or go for a walk in the outdoors, sometimes just by myself to soak in the beauty of nature.

I have to admit, that if I'm feeling down or not, it try to treat myself every day, never too busy for some 'me' time. You're right Jeannine, we all deserve it! :)

I have to say I approve wholeheartedly. Sometimes when I'm down, I will buy flowers, that somehow makes me feel better. I say whatever gives us a lift is well worth it. Why not? I too, enjoy walks. I have to exercise for pain management but there are added benefits--it can really boost my mood. There are many trails in the area so when I get bored with one, I look for another. Being kind to ourselves and even splurging from time to time can really help us maintain a positive attitude.

Lovely to hear from both of you, sadly I am not able to walk far which I used to love to do. I especially loved the beach in the winter and early Spring. I am trying hard to increase my mobility to tey once more to get on the beach, ven if it just a little way.

You are right there is something special about a bubble, the fragrance, the steam, a dimmed light or candles and some gentle favorite music..it works wonders'

Flowers of course always work, I have even sent them to myself which sounds crazy but the smile on the deliver person's face adds to the joy.

I have just this morning finished making a new Victorian nightgown, very authentic materials , fine cotton trimmed with 100% fine cotton lace and loads of fabric in it, and some French Heirloom sewing

That sounds nice Jeannine, I'm not good at sewing, knitting or things like that. I can replace a button, repair a small hole, or sew a straight hem on something like a kitchen curtain, that's about it. What color is it, can you post a picture?

I always wished I had paid more attention to some of those things. My mother was a seamstress but had no patience with me to teach me. I recall once attempting to pin down a pattern and I didn't do it right. She accused me of making myself stupid, haha, she was actually correct I had little interest in it. I like SB can perform the basics, hemming, buttons, repairs, but that's it. It must be fun to be able to whip up a nightgown or things like that!

My mother was actually a seamstress working in a factory in her younger days making clothes for dolls. She had a nice old fashioned sewing machine, the one with the large foot pedal and tried her best to get me interested in sewing in my teen years, I had no interest at all. It would be great to whip up a nightgown, dress or even make curtains with no big fuss. I have a new sewing machine sitting in the basement for years now, got frustrated trying to make kitchen curtains years ago and just gave up.

if you really want to learn to sew, don't give up on it, take a class or buy a good book.

When I was at school we had sewing lessons, I was totally useless at it, I am not kidding it was terrible. I was in my early twenties and I had found a piece of lovely wool fabric somewhere, I don't remember where so I went to the store and bought a pattern for a coat!!! I had no machine and followed this pattern to the letter, I made the most awful coat you could imagine but something clicked and I wanted to try again/ I don't really remember when it got easier bit I do have strong memories about some really bad garments.

I bought an old treadle sewing machine, taught myself to use it and made dog blankets which I sold at the dog shows I went to, it paid for my entry fees and my travelling costs so I had a reason to keep going but it was a chore. The first really nice thing I made was a christening gown and I loved doing it. I found out about heirloom sewing, fine Swiss batiste and real cotton fine lace and I was hooked..later I made doll clothes as I ran a ceramic studio and did a lot of porcelain work. I found the more challenging it was the better I liked it. I learned about antique silks hand made bonnets etc etc. then I started to quilt. It all started with that awful blue mohair coat. So don't give up, think about the awful blue coat. I was totally useless and it did not come easy to me

Only half of my earlier reply printed for some reason and it would not let me edit. I was trying to say I was going to have the bubble bath then wear my new nightgown, it has taken me several weeks to complete it so it is a very special treat to me. I have made many christening gowns but this time I wanted to make something pretty for me.

It is never too late to learn to sew, just start simple, try an apron with a proper pattern, and just take your time, if you don't understand a technique just ask.

It is sad that Mum had no patience Carla but go for it!!

My Mum could sew a little but she was not very good at it but she did do pulled thread needlework funnily enough but not garments, however she was a wonderful knitter and I was blessed that she showed e how when I was very small so I never remember a time when I couldn't knit. My favorite you might guess are christening shawls. She seemed to be the neighborhood shawl maker and always seemed to have one stretched on a sheet fastened to the wall..Fond memories.

So I am off to go into my bubbles. Tomorrow I am going to make a sponge cake and fill it with raspberry jelly and whipped cream, one slice for me and five to share. Even the doggie babies like this!!

Simple, hubby works in a kitchen where dinner is around 10pm. I just had dental surgery and I need something for me at 6pm. I went to the quickie mart for soup and a vanilla milkshake. Cheered me up and I ate dinner with him too.
