Treatment for Pain

I have had extreme pain in my feet and legs for seven years after two doctors maimed me feet. I have been using hyperactivity on my PC daily to reduce pain and now I am trying to get my geriatrician to give me Tylenol/Codeine plus Cymbalta to combat the pain. My main pain episodes occur between 11 PM and 6 AM every day.

I am interested in finding out what others here are doing for their pain.

Someone here at Senior Forums mentioned magnesium oil. We got some in a roll-on; it seems to be a cream, and it works great (although what we got is a little tacky to the touch for a while). However, while it works for our pain (and also seems to help where nerves got a little damaged), I don't know whether it will work for extreme pain.

It wasn't all that expensive ($9 for a big-ish roll-on tube). I'd say it wouldn't hurt to try.

using the search parameter 'magnesium oil for pain' and got almost 18 million results - necessitating delving further googling...

Ice water is excellent for reducing inflammation, pain, and driving the blood deep in the tissues for healing.
I used it to heal three fractured metatarsals in my foot from a dog attack and was back to running in six weeks.
Ice water is best used in alternation with gentle movement, as healing progresses.

Fresh ginger root, blended and strained, is excellent for reducing inflammation, pain, and for healing.
I have used it successfully many times both topically, and systemically by drinking copious amounts of it.

Valerian root was excellent for helping me to get rid of pain from a tooth that was dying.
The tooth was so painful that I could hardly lay down (more pressure) and wasn't able to sleep.
Finally I got up and blended a large pinch of valerian root that was in the cabinet but I'd never used before.

I poured the juice through a strainer, drank it and went back to lay down. 15 minutes later it wasn't working
because the pain was still quite intense. 45 minutes later I drifted off to sleep and didn't feel the pain anymore.
I got up the next morning with no pain, continued drinking valerian juice all that day, and the tooth pain never returned.

also...according to a member who used to post here regularly, and who used magnesium oil on the soles of his feet every night about an hour before bed, it also helped him sleep much better too.. and prevented cramps...

Okay. You wanna buy it or read more about it?

both, actually.

the price seems reasonable enough, so that makes it worth a try. but I'd like to see if any studies have been published in peer review journals. I'd rely more on that for info than than on consumer testimonials.

I've had some luck with real niacin because it can act as anti inflammatory. Some can't tolerate and if on blood thinners it might not be good. Unless nerve damage pain is a sign of something.

I have trigeminal neuralgia, on the right side of my face. I take two anti-seizure drugs plus Tylenol#3 (30 mg codeine). When none of that helps, I visit a chiropractor.

I use the same pills. I take two at dinner and they suppress pain until I wake the next day.
I also used two at dinner and had no pain in the night for 3 nights. However, now when I requested 60 pills from my doctor, then sent me a form for me to sign which made me agree to all kinds of terrible conditions and scared me away from sending in the form or taking the pills. I will just use distraction from chat rooms, forums and games to reduce my pain.

Mitch86, From what you described it sounds like you have Peripheral Neuropathy...? I have PN, but just numbness, not the wicked stabbing pain that some have. My doctor prescribed Gabapentin(Neurontin) which of course didn't address my numbness-only PN. But, I've heard that it does help for those Peripheral Neuropathy patients that do experience pain.

Once a year I have to sign a form too and give them a urine sample. Since I stick with the amount prescribed I have had no further problems about it with the docs. Maybe a blood sample to see how my body is reacting but nothing else.

At my age, I've been having pain in hands and many other parts of
the body....I only take Tylenol....
I had stones for many years....I had an operation in July..
Some stones are still there....Doctor told me it should subside in
a few months.....I hope....

A guy in my diabetes support group (81 yrs old) swears by CBD ointment for his foot pain - neuropathy. He said it not only relieved pain, but also restored feeling back to his feet in 2 weeks of use. He was at huge risk for falls due to lack of sensation. He gets it on E-Bay for a better price than in stores.
