Trying To Lower Salt? Don't Buy These Crackers.

Virtually ALL salted crackers are Heavy with salt....so "moderation" is important. A few days ago, I decided to heat a can of Campbell's chicken soup for lunch. It was 95% broth with a few noodles and a couple Very Small pieces of chicken. It was so "liquid" that I crunched up a half dozen salted crackers into it to give it some "body". I probably got a weeks worth of Salt when I ate that.

Try these....

My mother usually bought these..

Next time try a slice of plain dry toast to settle your stomach.

Some people believe that burnt toast is even better due to the carbon.

I like to wash it down with a glass of ginger ale when I'm not feeling well.
I've never heard of the burnt toast. Interesting. I got some ginger ale when I was finally able to go out. I usually keep soda in the house for my stomach but was out since I can't find the Hansons Cane Soda these days.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but isn't that why they're called saltines? These are the crackers we had in the house when I was a kid, but it was a different brand before Keebler bought them out.
I'm not adverse to salt at all. I like salt. But seriously, these are crazy with the salt on top. I went to the web site and read a review with the same complaint.

Reminded me of Kelloggs "Sugar Smacks" or Tony, the Tiger's "Sugar Frosted Flakes." 😂

5 cracker serving of saltines by brand:
Great Value (Walmart brand) unsalted tops: 60 mg sodium
Premium brand's regular (salted top) Saltines: 135 mg sodium.
Zestas: 220 mg sodium

I eat unsalted tops, DH eats regular Premium Saltines.

I just buy Cheez-Its, preferably the "spicy hot" variant. Then try not to eat too many at a time.

Not the best soup filler though. Maybe somebody sells freeze-dried cauliflower granules for that?

I didn't even notice StarSong , I buy "Hint of Salt Ritz Crackers" and "Unsalted Saltines". I give the dogs one of each everyday as a treat or an incentive to eat their food once I've crumbled them all over the top. And a 2 year old thread is okay to respond to isn't it? If it's a good topic then why not.

My go to when I have queasy stomach are McVitie's Digestive Biscuits.
It might be the products name, but the semi-sweet Baking Soda and wheat biscuits, seem to do the trick.
Discovered them when we lived in the UK. Our boys liked them better than crackers when they were under the weather.
Our local groceries have them.
( I'm sure someone will find a fault with them, but they work for me. )
