Reports have surfaced and the source is the Hollywood Reporter. The claims by Gerry's ex have been verified as will be mentioned in the video. I know there could be sour grapes because of his sudden fame and popularity, but at least some of her claims must be true. Her close friend corroborated her story and HR checked out the claims, including seeing texts between them and the receipts for the hospital bills she incurred when she fell down the steps at Gerry's house (one of the worst of his character flaws displayed after that incident which is covered in the video).
~He lied about not being with anyone for seven years after his wife died and was in a relationship.
~He convinced the woman, 14 years his junior, to quit her job and move from another state into his lake house. They were together for almost two years.
~Once she got there, he informed her that her portion of the rent would be $1,000 a month...she got him down to $850
~He made her pay for half the meals, even at restaurants and she had to give him cash before they got to the restaurants.
~He wouldn't take her to his class reunion because she gained 10 pounds, but still would not be considered fat.
~He asked her to move out, cut her no slack after she had to have surgery due to the fall and told her to stay at a hotel when his deadline arrived. Shortly after he got another GF.
The thought among some fans is that he chose Theresa for her money. Even I noticed his eyes lit up when she told him about her success in the financial world. Fans of the show are now calling for the franchise to be dropped due to the obviously fraudulent content. We wonder if ABC knew about all of this and created this backstory for him (the grieving, successful, nice guy with integrity widower) or if they were duped too. I say it's the former.
He was allegedly vetted, fingerprinted by the FBI and had to answer over 300 questions. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lawsuit by at least one of the women. It is said that ABC/Disney is not responding to questions about this and Gerry is on his own. Fans are saying Leslie, as heartbroken as she was, dodged a bullet (my thoughts exactly) and they hope Theresa doesn't marry him or at least gets a prenup. Their wedding is due to air on Jan 4th and stream on Hulu the next day. I listened to a podcast about this and watched this video, which basically has the same information.
