Ubiquitous "The Andy Griffith Show" TV reruns

It seems every channel that shows vintage TV reruns airs this show. Some have a whole time blocks devoted to it along with other "rural" sitcoms. I was never a big fan of this genre. Considering all the old TV shows that could be aired, why are there so many "corncobbers" being rerun?

Andy Griffith has been running here on broadcast TV for years. I watch it once in a great while. There are some other oldies I can't tolerate like "The Beverly Hillbillies," especially Irene Ryan ("granny").

But then there are other old TV shows I watch every chance I get, like "The Twilight Zone."

Apparently there is some following for all vintage shows. It may also be that some of those cost broadcasters less for re-run rights.

What shows would you like to have offered?

CBS owns the rights to it, so of course they will re-run it ad nauseum.

You have me confused with Aunt Bee. 😉🤭😂

Did you know that in the pilot episode she was named Henrietta Perkins.

Andy Griffith changed her name and the back story to make it a better fit for the series.
No confusion, I am on to you girl! Your avatar is a dead giveaway. Would you rather we call you Henrietta? :ROFLMAO:

I watch a lot of the older shows because I can't stand the newer ones as much. They're icky. I watch a lot of old black and white movies too. Mainly because there's no sex and the foul language is either non existant or at a bare minimum. They say the F word on tv now! I also don't care for the agendas that get pushed in today's tv.

I just like the simple and wholesome shows of days gone by. Today's sitcoms aren't that funny. And the movies are just too much sometimes. I get tired of seeing TV MA listed next to everything. I prefer G or PG.

Adam 12, Mash, Emergency, all the old SNL. I still haven't seen all of them 2 times.
I'm not sure how many jokes Alda told. He sure slung em.

Sort of on the wall, wall candy, I seldom really watch them, they just are there in the background.

Just for starters:

The Defenders
Route 66
M Squad
Six Million Dollar man / Bionic Woman
Eight is Enough
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Thriller
Lou Grant
Dr. Kildare
Sing Along with Mitch

Besides network concern about public interest, there are matters of rights and ownership.

I don't know about every show on your list, but ownership of re-run rights for Dr. Kildare was retained by Warner Brothers, so any network wanting to air that show would first have to negotiate with Warner Brothers.

The Andy Griffith show was produced by Paramount, but CBS is a Paramount affiliate, which simplifies or eliminates the need for re-run rights.

Other TV shows that have seem to be everywhere and have been re-run into the ground:

Leave It to Beaver
M*A*S*H
Perry Mason
Dragnet
Gilligan's Island
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
The Rifleman
Emergency!
Adam-12

So....negotiate!
I imagine they do try to negotiate when they feel there is sufficient public interest in a particular show, but if costs are too high, those shows won't be aired. There are probably many considerations that enter in.

Perhaps people are tired of these trite and silly reality shows and long for some old fashioned wholesome entertainment.
That's true. I don't find some new sitcoms funny, and others are offensive.

And not only sitcoms, but shows in general. Besides comedies, I still enjoy Gunsmoke which has been in re-runs where I live for at least 14 years.
