Ubiquitous "The Andy Griffith Show" TV reruns

Columbo is on network TV here Saturdays. I had it on this morning. I don't know what makes me still like it, but I don't seriously sit down and watch it as I would something newer. It's just "on" as I go through the room, and I may sit down and watch it awhile.

I did pay for cable years ago. With the cost of everything else rising, like my utility bills, I don't pay anymore. I want regular TV for news and weather, but I don't watch enough of any kind of TV anymore to justify the expense. I've posted in some threads before that I get more to see for less money when buying used DVDs, and I don't have to wait until it's time for them to come on, or sit through any commercials.
 
I think the Andy Griffith Show was one of the best shows ever.

After the first two or three episodes where the show was finding it's feet, they realized Barney should be the funny one and Andy more of a straight man. After that the characters had a reliable consistency and they became as familiar as family members to its fans. They were likeable people, sometimes very funny, sometimes touching.

There is a Sunday School series based on it because so many of the episodes had a good moral lesson hidden inside the humor.

That's why I like it and used to watch the re-runs in their 5:30 time slot every day for years.

As to why they show it so often, that's probably because it's available and doesn't cost the stations very much.
 

I've been thinking about how much I didn't like the gang from Mayberry. One thing that always tickled me was Aunt Bea. Does Aunt Bea sound like she ever spent one day in a southern town? I doubt she ever said "Y'all" or ever ate grits in her life. She sounds more like lived next door to Harvard.
 
I have not had cable tv for 2 decades plus so only receive OTA. But living in the SFBA, that is over 100 channels in good weather just using a rabbit ear antenna. This is the channel (OTA 68) where much of such programming exists. Of the below list on MeTV, I'll list how often I'll at least occasionally watch whatever in a 4 to 0 five scale with
0 not only never watch but disliked
1 never and or don't know what it is
2 maybe every few months once
3 once every couple weeks.
4 only Star Trek. Have seen episodes multiple times and often will watch at least parts of every week.

I've read that Frances Bavier in real life was a direct opposite of the character she was playing (Aunt Bee).

The character was from West Virginia and only went to the south upon Andy's request when he needed someone to help raise Opie. I think she once said her mother was English.

MeTV is a must have channel in my world, we can't get any OTA reception here(wrong side of mountain) but MeTV is available on Dish.net.

My go to shows on MeTV are:

Svengoolie
The Three Stooges
The Twilight Zone- usually on too late in the evening
Adventures of Superman

I never see Alfred Hitchcock Presents in the program schedule, maybe it's on at 3am...? Sometimes if I feel like lounging in the living room during the day I'll catch one of the b&w westerns(Gunsmoke, Rifleman, Wagon Train).
