UK gangs still a problem ?

Still? Amusement aside, gangs are very real in the UK. As I always say, in general, the UK is 10 years behind the US. These days, so called "county lines", which are gangs, are prevalent. Gangs are a real problem, and I'm glad it's not my job to deal with it.

I had no idea , I heard crime has gone up but did not think gangs .

I meet tourist here all time from Europe mostly UK did today so this Monty Python skit came to mind .

I chat with them like on store cashier lines and actually thought very tranquil there but again bit of of increase in crime but no gangs .

Doesn't every city in the world have gang problems ?...Ours have got so much worse in the last few years...

In the 60's London was notorious for gang warfare...they were men not kids...

Today every city has kids pulling knives, swords, and even guns on anyone they feel like whose ''disrespected'' them

Yes but your gang problem was elderly women , pensioners .

I've wondered sometimes of seeing gangs from other countries go up against each other. UK vs Australia, UK vs South America, US vs Haiti. Mexican drug cartels up against the EU. See who is the toughest.

yep that's what happening here because the majority of the gangs are immigrants so there's albanians, turkish, romanians, bulgarians and so on.... in the last 10 years...

prior to that it was mainly black on black ( altho' still is to a large extent especially when it comes to the kids with knives.. or machettes...)

In the 2000s, Britain's street gangs in certain inner city areas such as London and Manchester became influenced by America's Crips and Bloods.[7][8] This was evidenced by identification with colours, hand signs, graffiti tags[9] and in some cases gang names, for example Old Trafford Cripz and Moss Side Bloods[10] or 031 (O-Tray-One) Bloods gang and ABM (All Bout Money) Crips. This phenomenon has since declined during the 2010s.

As you know young violence all over the world has gone up and plenty say fueled by the internet .

I was no choir boy in my youth but we did not use weapons .

From what I've heard the victims face harsher punishment than the perpetrators, who are often left untouched out of some sort of "cultural sensitivity."

So it is. Because of fear of racism and islamophobia the police in several cities did nothing for many years.

exactly...and I agree it's partly fuelled by the internet, but there's a HUGE drug problem now..cheap street drugs withn our inner cities, and these gangs fight for control
I have the criminal gene in me and my neighbor who is called a barrister by you has said that my jokes / comedy is a criminal act in itself .

precisely what's happening here , which is why so many crimes go unreported or challenged...so much easier for the police to go after low level crime.....it's a disgrace

With respect, this is completely untrue. Do a search for "grooming gang jailed" to find many instances where they have been investigated, arrested, and jailed. But in such cases, even one incidence is heinous. Let's not get carried away and suggest authorities don't care, or they're afraid of racism, or any such nonsense. This isn't correct.

In general, the police should do a better job. However, two things have hindered them. 1) Under-funded; 2) They have become too political.

When I was growing up you'd see the old bobby on the beat. They'd walk through housing estates, factory districts, and everywhere else. Now? They're all in cars. They're also desperately wed to KPI's to justify their worth. And let's not forget that one key element - cops are hired from the society they operate in.

I admit, I don't get on with cop hating. They do the best they can given the constraints they're under. Yes, some are corrupt. Yes, they sometimes get forced to do repugnant work. But talk about tough jobs, they have one of the toughest - and for too little money.
