Underground Roman Bath Ruins from the 3rd Century AD, near my house...

This is very local to me.

The underground baths were discovered in around 1960 when a new Motorway was being built. They were excavated, and survive to this day, under the motorway which was built over them.

They are very near my house... what's left is only small, but immaculately kept.....

In the pictures you will see the boardwalk around the baths for visitors, and staff..

The only things which are not original are the statues, and the toilet.. but the latter is a copy of what would have been used at the time of the occupation of the Villa in the 3rd century....

Ruins help us realize that the greatest technological invention of all time is the indoor toilet
very true... altho' when you look at it and see the Romans had a type of toilet way back in the 3rd Century Britain.. what took them so long to get a toilet in Italy where until even the 90's public toilets were literal Holes in the ground...
