Underground Sprinkler Systems?

Do you have an underground sprinkler system? It seems like many don’t since they mention watering. For us, it’s not only the convenience but the money savings. Watering happens in the middle of night at permitted times, so less is lost to evaporation. At our last house we had drip lines for the hanging plants. It also means we don’t have to ask anyone to water our yards if we’re away.

Last year during the heat dome we turned off the water to the grass and just kept the shrubs watered in the permitted nights. Some people didn’t do this and their trees will have to be replaced and are now a fire hazard. No one cares about grass; after the first rain it’ll be green again.
 

I'm in central Florida, and irrigation systems are pretty much the norm. The HOA tells us what days and times to water, since they don't want all 700 homes to start watering at once. My system starts at 7 am on Thursday and Sunday. I still have to water the plants on the patio by hand.

When I lived in Arizona, there was no grass to water, and the system was all drip lines to shrubs and trees.
 
I have one but don't use it, for some reason they charge more for that water, House and sprinkler system on two different meters. When I do water I use an old fashioned sprinkler. I will say I have so many leaves coming off the trees due to our horrible heat and lack of rain.

Is it possible that you have an underground leak in the sprinkler system?
 
Our home in Florida has one. Unless the mowers whack off the heads, they work great. Of course, watering 3-4 times a week right now increases the water bill significantly.
