Part of the mystery was explained by a detective from the Las Vegas police department this morning. The detective said suicide is ruled out. He explained the coroner found evidence of the dead man being shot. According to the detective the working theory is.

1. the man was shot.
2. put in the barrel
3. put on a boat
4. taken several hundred feet out onto the lake
5. dumped into the lake

Futher valuable info was.

The year this took place estimate is late 1970 or early 1980. The depth of the lake is estimated to be 100 feet deep at that time. That depth is why the barrel wasn't discovered until now when the water level dropped.

I didn't make this up this is actually what was said.

Unlike on TV it's going to take time to solve the whole mystery. Thankfully the detective updating where they are now, filled in the mystery of whether or not this was a suicide or murder.

That reminds me of a instance in 2012 where i read a death was ruled a suicide..........
but it was by chainsaw ......and chainsaw was found 15 feet from the body?
seriously i lose faith in " detectives" when they report such things...... makes me wonder how they got their job.

My brother told me this but he said there was a bunch of barrels down there. I wasn't surprised as Lake Mead/Hover Dam are close to Las Vegas where there is gambling and where there is gambling and prostitution and there is crime and soon the Mafia arrives and the rest of the story you can follow on "The Untouchables."

I do know that chainsaws can snag and jump; I wouldn't discount the suicide theory without more information. Once it hit bone, it's possible that body convulsions and bone impact could have helped the chainsaw fly. /-; (But, I'd never pick this way to purposely die!)

I'm currently reading a book by Kathy Reichs. She is a pathologist and had to deal with a case very similar to this.....a body placed in an oil drum, filled with tar and buried in a disused quarry.

I am puzzled that more bodies have been found. Pertaining to people that have committed suicide there and we don't know about it yet. Like the true story of people seeing someone jumping off of the alternate bridge way that is in a southern direction of the dam. A team went to the site to recover the body and they found two more bodies of suicide victims previously unknown of.

How sad. To commit suicide is bad enough, but for no-one to know is heart-wrenching.

The same way modern reporters get their job for reporting on Covid19. You need "tunnel vision." Not having any common sense can also be a big asset for the job.
