Hi

Rick is still at the rehab center. They are treating the wound on his butt, trying to get it better. Problem is, due to his arthritis, he cannot lay on his back or side because it causes his back to pretty much scream out. He is sitting on a air cushion pillow in a recliner. THEN he got some edema in his left leg (that has always been an issue) but it got pretty filled with fluid. They gave him a stool to raise his foot.
The chair he is in his a recliner, sort of like a power lift chair, but it does not lift, just reclines. But doing that puts too much pressure on his bottom. The stool seems to be easing the swelling. They are trying to get him into see the vein center at the hospital, where he went when he had same problem 6 or 7 years ago. The nurse at the rehab center was shocked to hear they never scheduled any return visits after they cleared the problem before. Just for follow ups.
They had planned to do a home visit today, with the possible chance of his returning home this weekend. That is on hold until his leg is dealt with.

On another note, it seems he is eligible for Medicaid, and a person is coming Thursday to gather all the paperwork we need to submit.

Gosh Marie, sorry he's not home yet but he's getting there! I heard something years ago about lamb's wool pads....maybe just an old wive's tale.

Thanks for the update and good thoughts your way.

Thank you for the update, Marie. I'll continue to pray that the Lord will bring Rick comfort and healing. Good news about Medicaid.

Sorry to hear he's still at the center Marie, hoping he can come home in the near future. Good news that he can get Medicaid. Thanks for letting us know what is happening with him, hope you're taking care of yourself too.

It's frustrating but IMO the best place for him is the rehab facility until they can get the issues with his leg and the pressure sores resolved.

Good news about Medicaid that should open up several options for home care. Talk to his social worker about the PACE program to see if he may be eligible for them to manage his homecare using a combination of Medicare and Medicaid.

Good luck to both of you!!!

Oh dear Marie, you must be fed up with all
the delay, hopefully it won't be a long wait
for you.

Mike.

I am doing OK. I am usually there over lunch, so one of the nurses on the floor arrainged to have a sandwich sent with his lunch. So, I could eat with him. The cool thing is, if he is not interested in what is for lunch, HE will eat the sandwich and I will eat part of his lunch.

Sounds like he's in a good rehab.

Just sayin' if they take time to think about you , they are probably doing a good job.

Sorry for your situation, wishin' you both the best.

Hi Marie, sorry to learn Rick is still at rehab, but with each passing day he's getting better and soon can come home
You take care of yourself, keeping both of you in my nightly prayers Sue

Wow, I'd just assumed he was home by now. Sorry to hear he's still there, but it does sound like he's in a decent care environment. Fingers crossed that he'll make it home soon.

Guess. Where. We . Are. Back in the hospital. Problem with fluid on his leg. They did an ultrasound and found a small clot. Problem is due to arthritis he has trouble lying Down. Had been staying in a recliner. They said he has to be in a bed to get the sore on his butt to heal. They are bringing him an air mattress in his hospital room. And one for rehab center. He needs to be on his side more.

Update>>needs surgery

I am hesitant to start a new thread, so may retitle this one . Or not. He was admitted to the hospital late last night. This morning a gaggle of doctors, residents and a cute med student came in and out. Then a vascular guy. The final determination is the baby left toe is not viable, and has to go. Surgery scheduled for tomorrow. Toe going, and all the bad muscle. Maybe a bit of bone. And they will try to zap the blood clot.
I will have my tablet at the hospital tomorrow, will give updates as I know them.

Hang in there Marie it sounds like Rick is in for a bumpy ride.

The surgery is a big thing but in my opinion, the mental/emotional stress is ten times tougher.

Best wishes to both of you in the days ahead.
