Using green apples

Not Granny Smith green but green as in picked too soon. Walmart+ grocery delivery brought 3 lb. bag of Honeycrisp apples that left their tree much too soon. I love a crisp firm apple but these are rock hard and tasteless so not for snacking or salads. Any ideas?

Yes! Complain to your store!

Other than that, you might be able to force ripen them by putting them in a brown paper bag, closing the bag, and leaving it on your counter top. If the apples are grossly under ripe, even this may not work.

As a last resort, you can always cut them up & put them out for the birds and wild critters.

Thanks, Trila and Aunt Bea. I was so upset that I couldn't eat them fresh, my brain went into fog mode. I see warm apple crisp in my near future.

I would make applesauce

We have a big green apple tree, it can be hard to tell when they are ripe without picking and biting. That combined with lots falling off have given us lots of green apples to deal with. Applesauce is a good solution. We have enough to last all winter, had some with lunch today.

Sautéed in butter and mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon—what's not to like?
