Vaccinated Britons now make up almost half of Covid cases in the country, a symptom-tracking study suggested today — but there are signs the third wave may have already peaked.

King's College London scientists estimated 33,118 people were catching the virus daily in the week ending July 10, compared to 33,723 in the previous seven-day spell.

But 47 per cent of cases are among those who have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine, surging upwards from around a quarter at the start of June.

This does not mean the jabs do not work. Scientists have always been honest that they are not perfect and millions will still be vulnerable to infection even after getting both doses.

Infections are rising fastest among young Britons — many of whom have only received one dose. But the ZOE app counts these people as 'vaccinated' even though they are not yet fully protected by two doses. A second dose of all vaccines has been shown to be much more effective than a first dose against the Indian 'Delta' variant.

Professor Tim Spector, who leads the study run with health-technology firm ZOE, said the shift in trend was likely because the virus was 'running out' of non-jabbed Britons to infect, with nearly 90 per cent of adults having now received at least one dose.

@hollydolly are you still in lockdown? I wonder if being isolated so long with so little human interaction has hurt people's immune systems? I'm just thinking out loud.
yes we're still in semi lockdown until the 19th of July 9 freedom day they're calling it) .. however in reality little will change from how we are now.. everyone will still be wearing masks on public transport and inside public areas.. businesses have been told to keep their employees distanced.. and so on and so forth.

In essence this semi lockdown has meant mostly freedom of a sort for us the last couple of month.. except we cannot travel out of the country without severe quarantine rules, and laws... nightclubs remain closed, .. and we can't go out to eat or drink without using track or trace.. ( the latter which will hopefully disappear on the 19th .. so really those things aside we've all been interacting pretty normally for the last couple of months

If a person is going to get vaccinated, especially with the 2 dose vaccines, they Must get Both shots, in order to achieve substantial protection.
Just getting one shot barely offers more than minimal protection. Plus, even if given Both shots, they must continue to exercise caution for at least 2 weeks....so the vaccine can be fully absorbed.

I suspect that many are just getting one shot, and thinking that is "close enough". Or...they are not getting vaccinated, at all. Living in a crowded urban environment requires that the people living there Must be Very Careful during this pandemic.

Since the whole idea is getting everyone vaccinated (including TV ads), we can't expect honesty regarding the effectiveness of vaccines. There is already enough conflicting information. Besides, they need sufficient vaccinated people for their research.

Besides, doctors who push vaccines are the same people who were well paid to say "Cigarette smoking is healthy & more doctors smoke Camel cigarettes than any other brand." Food for thought.

Isolation does nothing to strengthen ones immune system, and does weaken it over time. That's why doctors are saying "Get outdoors and get some sun."
we're not isolated,, even at the worst of the lockdown, where we were barely allowed to shop more than one person a time in a store.. and where we were not permitted to see our doctors apart from online... for many months.. we were a nation who spent a lot of time in the parks and woodland...Unfortunately the only ones isolated are /were in care homes..hospitals etc..and those elderly who live alone...
