Verizon To Layoff 44,000, Outsource 2500 To Infosys In India

I think ATT and Verizon are what's left of the old ma bell. Breaking up ma bell's family was supposed to create competition ie choice for customer & employees. Now even much of competition contracts to one of these two. I think Comcast uses/contracts to Verizon as their cell provider.

No more telecom mergers please.

I think that when ma bell was broken up no one envisioned how dominant cell phones would become. Based on getting stranded with a broken down car once, I don't want a cell provider that has dead spots in my normal travels, and Ver. seems ok here. Lots of dead spots in the boonies for all providers here in the Wild West unless special satellites. But I absolutely hate talking to "off shore" customer (non) service dudes. Ho hum.. Just have to wait & see how it plays out.

Breaking up Ma Bell brought prices down dramatically. I remember the outrageous prices of long distance calls back in the day. Factoring in inflation, phone service's relative cost before the break up was much more expensive than it is now.

There are still many choices for cell providers, but agree that it's in the public's best interest for government to disapprove future mergers. (Not likely at the moment though.)
