Very upsetting to watch at the Lincoln Memorial.

This past Mother's Day I also visited all the sights in Washington DC after dark. We went to the Lincoln Memorial and I was totally in awe of how beautiful it looked with all the lights. There were signs all around asking people to be quiet and respectful while in these areas. It wasn't all that crowded but you would have thought you were standing in Times Square, NYC, waiting for the ball to drop. The noise and laughter from these people was deafening. Some of the younger ones were sliding down the marble slabs on each side of the statue. Some having a snack on the steps. Have people lost their sense of respect? Or maybe they never had it to begin with. It was upslincoln (800x600).jpgetting to say the least.

Sad that being respectful of anything or anyone has gone from society. The new normal of the 21st century has me shaking my head at so many things everyday. What we grew up with and knew has disappeared.

What a shame, I think it reflects their upbringing not to act in a respectful and considerate way to their surroundings and other visitors present.

I don't think that the concept of "respect" is well understood, anymore.

Who or what to blame? I blame the "pop culture", and those that profit from it's negative influences on society.

I don't have an answer to the problem. I remember seeing the Lincoln Memorial as a child and was very much in awe.
