Veterans no longer wanted

I have been notified that the local medical center where my primary care physcian is will no longer accept VA patients. I now have to find another care facility. I imagine all the local vets will have to also. I have not learned the reason for this move.

It would seem that federal spending/funding would, among other things, encourage close Physician Veterans Administration relations. Sorry for this inconvenience. I'm sure it's counterproductive..
Thank you for your service by the way...
Hopefully you're in a more urban locale. Regionalization & consolidations resulting from for-profit medicine & medical practice can make finding care difficult..
All the best...

I'm surprised you don't have a dedicated facility/hospital for Veterans.
We have one where I'm located in California, and I know this only because my neighbor is a vet and uses it's services.

I'm curious, have you called them as some doctors aren't accepting "New" patients, but the long term ones are still seen. I know doctors won't take in more medicare patients till the others are reduced.

Or was this a mass expulsion of all vets?

Not that simple in rural areas. For instance, the VA hospital is about 120 miles from our place in Arkansas. Not an easy or quick trip. Now, the VA facility where I'm at in Florida is only about 6 miles away. 2 different worlds.

This has probably been one of the biggest complaints against anyone living in rural areas that wants to use the VA. When a Veteran goes to buy a house, they have to take into consideration where the closest VA is located. I live just outside of D.C. and am close to a lot of VA doctors and medical facilities.

When to use Medicare for services and when to use the VA system has long been a very confusing process for most people.

On my first visit to the VA facility after I got out of the military, I was asked
to bring any prescription Drugs with me to be entered into their system.
The VA prescription Plan is similar to Part D of Medicare.

The VA has a Priority Grouping system that determines how much, if any, the cost will be for the Veteran.

I use the VA prescription service for my service-connected medications, which is free and 'Tricare
for Life' program for all my other medications.

I use the VA system for any Service-Connected treatment and Medicare for everything else.

Seems to be waste of resources since one can't talk to the other, but both are Federal Government programs.

Example: The VA has priority over my right leg and makes decisions about treatment and my Medicare doctor takes a 'backseat'.

Don't get me wrong, glad that I have such options for my health care, just don't understand why there are so
many rules about which one to use.

In Canada, Canadian Forces veterans can go to ANY Doctor, or any hospital, with no restrictions at all. A much different system here. JimB.

I am not sure if this action is being done solely by the medical center or because a VA program is coming to an end,

This is really sad to hear. People deserve health care.

I guess some people like homeless and those on medical will never see a bill. Not saying they don't deserve care but so does everyone else.

it used to be priorty for vets here going to the docs, now im told, get in line with others,,,all BMH closed years ago
