With February here, it’s time to remember how we commemorated Valentine’s Day and perhaps Washington and Lincoln’s birthday when in elementary school. I can remember cutting out black silhouettes of Washington and Lincoln on construction paper, and of course those dreadful cheap pun-laden childhood valentines that we exchanged…

It seems like our moms had a box of food coloring and a cookie cutter for every occasion.

These! We cut out silhouettes of Washington and Lincoln from black construction paper to commemorate their February birthdays, and sometimes to accompany written essays about their lives. I always found Lincoln more relatable…
