I have been taking both for sometime now but ....... I am considering tapering off to a complete stop of them all . I just honestly question the [positive] effect of them .

Not that they're that expensive ...... but why spend the money ?

My philosophy has always been they're a waste of money unless your body is specifically lacking in something, and it take blood work to show you that. Also some supplements can actually cause harm if there's too much in your system.

Eat well.

I don't take any vitamins or supplements. Get enough out of the foods I eat and am outdoors most of the day very active.

I have lab work done every 6 months and results are excellent. My doctor says whatever I'm doing keep doing it.

I agree with this.
If I had a specific need for a specific replacement I would take it. ( and I did take iron tablets for a while as medically directed)

But not anything else.

Except maybe a general multi vitamin if I knew my intake was insufficient for some reason

And blood tests have not shown any deficiency ( other than mild anaemia years ago, now resolved. )

I take them sporadically. I may get some more multi vitamins. I do take vitamin D. I've had low levels. If I got out in the sun more, I'd probably be OK. I get plenty of vitamin B12 from nutritional yeast.

I get vegetarian formulas from the health food store, so they are more pricey.

If i decide to try a supplement ......i buy small amount and see if i feel a difference ......IF I do then i will keep taking ....too expensive to take on a maybe.

The idea of "a well balanced diet" is a term almost without meaning ......... ask 100 people bet you get well over 50% with differing answers....

different people process things differently so eating the Same diet could result in very different outcomes...
the body produces vitamin and minerals needed...some people in good health may have no issues others their body does not produce enough.... for example vit D but some people standing in sun all day is not enough........

My health insurance has a staff pharmacist review all of my prescriptions and supplements annually and provides guidance and a list of questions for my next doctor's visit. I just spent 40 minutes on the phone this week.

He strongly approved vitamin D, zinc, and the form of manganese I'm taking as well as B complex or at least B12. But he'd also reviewed the blood screenings of the last year as well.

Not being a doctor though he provided a few questions, one just a blood test if the doc decides to order it. Some question the ongoing need for several prescriptions, but leave that decision to the doctor.

Yes, and just general nerve and muscle support.
I recently ran out of gabapentin , [refill date] was off by just one day.

My lower legs, feet and of all things hands hurt so bad that night ..... I couldn't sleep. Not saying magnesium doesn't help and/or isn't needed but , for me anyway it's just not enough on it's own.

I was speaking with my chemist the other day and said I'm taking all these vitamins; do I really need them? I have to take 4 of my prescribed tablets, but the vitamins seem to be doing the same thing. She told me to stop taking MultiB as I take B Complex, must take B12, D3, Macu-Guard for the eyes, and I have to take Iron tablets because I rarely eat red meat... All these vitamins cost me about $120.00 per month.

I take these eye health complex vitamins twice a day and a generic multi vitamin mineral tablet.

" Speaking with my chemist" Made me smile. Here we call them pharmacist , same thing. But at the pharmacy the person that [greets] you is just a minimum wage clerk. {That's what made me smile}
Very likely that I know as much or perhaps more than they do.

And as a side note ..... getting anyone in the medical field to actually take the time to talk to you/discuss your issues is like pulling teeth.

Ron and I both take a lot of supplements and have for many years. We are both very healthy.

I can’t remember the last time I had a cold, I’ve never had Covid, the flu, pneumonia, etc. Of course I can’t say with any certainty whatsoever that the supplements I take along with my healthy diet are responsible, but I also can’t say that they’re not. 🤷‍♀️

My Doc has my full list of my supplements and is pleased with my health profile. We’ve discussed the use of supplements and though she can’t say with certainty that they’re partly responsible for my good health, she also can’t rule it out, and endorses the use of them.

Without listing them all, the overview is that I take different ones for support of brain, eyes, heart and skin, digestion, joint support, cell support, and immune response.

When I entered 'mid-senior' around in my late 60's to early 70's, I started taking Multi-Vitamin by my former primary doctor's recommendation(a very good GP, but retired). After that, I added to Omega, Fish oil. As my age progressed, Kidney and Digestive supplements. All of four seems helping my over-all in good health.

I take Glucosamine chondroitin daily, 4 gram 2 morning and two night. Otherwise I'm in a major world of hurt. I'm talking hip, shoulders and back.

If I do multivitamin, it's liquid form for better absorption. I did it in Yakima, but felt they put in too many vitamins that wre so miniscule for needs and always excessive (Normal range 2-5 MG, they had 125 MG per bottle) so I backed off them.
