Walgreens - you need to do better

You're familiar with those small shopping baskets with 2 handles that we use when we just want to get a few items. Nice to use instead of navigating a large cart.

Last year I noticed my neighborhood Walgreens never had any small baskets in the stack. Never. I asked the cashier and she said "Customers steal them. They walk out with the baskets and we're not allowed to say anything." She was nonchalant and even smirked.
WHAT?! o_O

A week or so ago, same problem. And although they have a few large carts they were in use. I asked a clerk and got the same answer, and she said they're not going to be getting anymore.

If I was a CEO or a stockholder I'd be furious. This isn't Joe's corner Mini-Mart - this is Walgreens...a corporation! There has to be a better way to deal with the problem.

So I called the 800 customer service "tell us how we're doing" number and spoke to someone. I was told the problem would be relayed to regional management and someone would speak to the store about it.

We'll see. By the way, Kroger, CVS, etc. don't seem to have this particular problem.

If the people working in these places cared at all, I'm sure they could stop the practice... They just don't want to be bothered.

The supermarkets came out with mini carts (trolley), perfect for just one or two for weekly groceries. One store has one left, the other two major stores in my town have zero left. They were all stolen, usually by homeless people I'm told.

As an employee, I would not feel safe accosting a thief, but there should be security guards at least. The police won't come out for a stolen basket unless they're not busy.

It really is a shame.

Exactly! To use a common phrase, "It's not rocket science".
Also, what would one do with a small Walgreens shopping basket at home? (storage?) What am I missing?
Some people break the law/rules simply because they can.

The street in front of my apartment building has odd-even parking but as soon as one person parks on the wrong side it quickly fills up with other scofflaws.

IMO it's just a small example of the broken windows theory of policing.

radishrose, we have a tJ Max, but you are able to bring the carriage out of the store to your car....The problem is, people leave the cart
anywhere they want....There is a place to put the cart's, but people are lazy...
It drives me crazy....
Our super market has baskets, you have to put a quarter in to bring the basket back to it's place...then get your quarter back...

Walmart grocery never has enough small carts. The big ones are clunky when you are just there for a few things.

By the way, Kroger, CVS, etc. don't seem to have this particular problem.
My wife went into Kroger to get a few things, she used a cart..After getting disgusted on not finding these items, she headed with the cart to the entrance door to return the empty cart. When she got close to the door a buzzer went off and the cart wheels locked up!!!!!

I shop at Kroger (Frys to me) and even though I use the big cart I also grab a basket and put all my produce int the basket. This way the bagger puts all the produce together in the same plastic bag (I hope). When finished ringing up the produce the cashier puts it aside to be returned to its usual place. Why can't the Walgreens cashier do that? Don't they bag the purchases? I never shop there so don't know.

I always bring my decorative recycled bags to put stuff into, if its gonna be 10 items or less, then carry it to the cashier....I know, sounds like double work taking it out then putting it back in again, but if there's no small carts, that problem is solved before it happens.
