Warner Brothers to release new 2021 movies simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters.

Something like this was inevitable but COVID pushed it faster then I thought it would. The major studios have always had a tight relationship with the major theater chains so it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming years.

Their movies will still be released in theaters that are still open too.

Even before all of this I would have preferred to watch a newly released movie at home. In order to qualify for an Oscar a movie does have to be released in a theater for a certain amount of time which is why certain Netflix movies have been released in theaters for a short run before being exclusively on Netflix.
