Washing Hair with Baking Soda

This is a technique that I’d forgotten and hadn’t done in a year or so. It helps take off product build up that makes grey hair yellowish. A couple of weeks ago I washed my hair with a mix of shampoo and baking soda. It was truly squeaky clean when I rinsed it. I’ll do a very, very light repeat and rinse with vinegar water. It’ll be a few months before I do it again.

My friend told me her hairdresser advised her to buy a special "clarifying" shampoo and to use it every month or so to remove excess buildup of oil and conditioner on her hair. $36 for 8 oz. on Amazon. Cheapest was $18/22 oz (Suave).

I told her to save her money because Dawn dishwashing soap does the same thing, is a fraction of the price, and was already in her kitchen. She looked it up and learned I was right. Dawn "clarifies" (aka removes oil and buildup) as well as any of those products. Sure, she needed to follow it with conditioner, but those specialty shampoos require conditioning afterwards, as well.

If it’s good enough for baby ducks…😉🤭😂

I never heard of baking soda used on hair, but my great grandma had me using vinegar water to rinse my hair. She did have me using baking soda to brush my teeth and make them white. It does make them white but will kill the enamel. Made my teeth sensitive. Thank goodness for Sensodyne!
