Although not new news the water at several water sport sites for the 2016 Olympics is akin to raw sewage.

In a year Rio/Brazil will be at the center of the world's stage and will have yet to clean up their act-literally.

How the heck did Brazil get the Olympics again? But after seeing the FIFA/soccer scandal which is nothing but a confirmation of the corruption of international sports I guess I shouldn't wonder. But Brazil, Olympics and host city shouldn't be in the same sentence because a real city would have sanitation. Perhaps we should send the UN and instead of athletes to Brazil.

What puzzles me is that Brazil struggled to finish preparations for the World Cup last and had over 5 years to get their country/city ready for the Olympics. There is a reason the Olympic bids are awarded years in advance and apparently Brazil didn't take advantage. I'm surprised there isn't talk/plan of an emergency back up location. But this is further evidence of corruption because who ever is awarding, evaluating or making the bid isn't taking substandard infrastructure into consideration.

Finally the International Olympic Committee is actually going to check on one it's sites and run it's own tests in Brazil.

When moving some of the water events was mentioned those involved in the Brazil Olympics cried too much money and they want the scenic views the current venues provide. They would have to implement state of the art pollution/sewage controls almost immediately to clean up those waters in less than a year.

Some pictures of the pollution in Brazil.

And this is the same country where Ford decided to invest in a 2 BILLION dollar plant while leading the US in domestic car manufacturer layoffs.

Brazil Is Corrupt period

Some of problems or issues leading to this pollution include corruption. Progress on Olympic sites and probably associated infrastructure has gone through several halts.

Brazil also has a lot of criminal corruption issues in general taking attention and resources away from the Olympics. Over the last week a journalist and radio host reporting on corruption was killed live on air.

The Brazilian President has a 9% approval rating.

The police or military police have recently accounted for 16% of the murders in Rio. Amnesty International is on the case. There were also 100 murders of police last year on and off duty.

I can't believe a lot of these issues didn't come up when selecting Brazil to host the Olympics but again seeing the corruption with FIFA and World Cup soccer it's not surprising. Although for years I remember hearing about police corruption going back into the 60s and 70s when Brazilian police murdered juvenile criminals partly because they were hurting the tourist trade. I don't think Brazil is ready for the Olympics financially or politically and should have the games pulled.

And just like a professional politician the head of the International Olympic Committee says the RIO Olympics will be the best ever 'as long' as the operational details are taken care of-without giving examples of said details. Again just another confirmation of the corruption of international sport.

Should add the IOC says they won't do any viral testing of the waters. Even joked they would take a dip-maybe, sometime......

If not corrupt massive incompetent denial here.

Brazil simply can't handle it ie the Olympics complete with even cleanER water. Little progress and seemingly little or poor efforts to clean it up.

Too many issues which the IOC had to have known about when awarding them the Olympics years ago.

This water problem will probably surpass China/Beijing's air pollution issues.
